Is the Hookbill better then the Kestrel? And if so if it worth paying the price for it?
What are it's main advantages/disadvantages? |

So you'd like to be given the answer and not do any work/theory craft on your own? If that's the case I'm sure someone will be happy to give you all the summarized info you've requested, but EvE is very dependent on you doing a lot of reading to get the most out of it. Guild Wars 2 is coming out next month. Perhaps that will be more to your play style. |

Simple question with a very simple answer. No need to turn this into a 5-quote "learning experience".
@OP: Yes, it's better. Yes, it's also MUCH more expensive. |

The hookbill is a pretty awesome ship. Yea it's more expensive but in some cases it can be worth it. I am not sure what it is you are looking for in a ship, but I for one have been eying the Hookbill to help blast through L1 missions while I grind for standings. Would be quicker than trying to blitz through with my Caracal, that's for sure.
As a side note, Evelopedia and EFT are not at all the answers to everything. Yes they can give you numbers and stats, but for a lot of ships they don't offer you suggested fittings/primary uses. If you won't be helpful, don't post. |

Suggested fittings?
You mean sorta like 'Hey, I've got 3 high slots, 3 launcher hard points, no gun hard points and a bonus to rockets and light missiles"' also 'I have more shield hitpoints, 5 midslots and only 2 low slots'.
Do you think it might perhaps be a shield-tanked rocket ship? |

Actually you will find it be quite good armor tanked with heavy tackle and tracking disruption in the mids.
Basically, there are myriad of possibilities, places like Failheap Challenge and Battleclinic will give some idea, but dont copy those, change em as you want, make em your own. |

EDIT: If you have any recommended loadouts please post them too.
the Kestrel is kinda meh since it hasn't been hit by the rebalance stick that is coming to all T1 frigates.
The Hookbill's primary asset is that it's really goddamn fast - nearly interceptor speeds, while still fielding decent tank and damage. Only downside is that it still doesn't have the raw tank/damage of assault frigs, meaning you'll lose in a 1v1 unless you're able to do some weird kiting. |

Hookbill can beat most frigs/dessies (daredevil and coercer it would struggle with). It is hands down the best navy faction frigate. I for the most part have stopped flying them in my space because no one would fight me after a time. |

It's two largest advantages are the amazing bonuses to rockets/Light missiles, and the excellent versatility of having 5 midslots on a frigate. Before the AF rebalance, it was unique in that ability. The common fit uses an MSE and dual webs to hold your target out of range/in deep falloff for turrets and let your mediocre but consistent rocket dps chew away at them.
Lately though, I've been seeing more fit with one, or even two tracking disruptors. Makes it nearly impossible for your common turret frigate to deal with, but if they get caught by another rocket ship, it's GF. |

Ive also seen dual prop hookbills a few times, although they suffer from a serious drop in EHP as you cant fit an MSE unless you gimp the fit in other areas. |

i have been using this fit to run lvl1 missions with and started tuning lvl 2's with it today
i find it works great
didn't need the MASB in the lvl 1's but in some of the lvl 2's it is handy that you can pulse it a few times to avoid warping out

That's one, overtanked PvE Hookbill for ya... but it will work. I'd go for a second Extender or CCC over the EM rig, but that's personal choice. If I'm going up against EM-heavy rats, I'll just fit two EM hardeners. Again, personal choice. |

I'd go for T2 rocket launchers so I could fire T2 rockets for max DPS. But hey, I might be crazy.

a CCC rig is of no use with an ASB
main reason i have it omni tanked is that i hate switching resist mods between missions
as for the t2 rockets i don't have the skills yet still working on caldari frig 4 and 5
rockets are next tho but i will have to change the fit as T2 won't fit with my current fit

Though is shines best in FW, since it can enter all FW plexes unllike T2 frigates.

Fitting would become an issue if you put T2 Launchers on it. You'd probably need a Launcher CPU efficiency implant. |

Not strictly true i get 7.6k ehp out of my dual prop with 170 heated dps so it isnt bad.....and it makes them great at killing tackle in 0.0 Evil: If I were creating the world I wouldn't mess about with butterflies and daffodils. Big fan of the dprop Hookbill (and by extension, dprop Hawk). Back in the dramiel swarm days I found it to be a pretty decent dram hunter.
I haven't had much success with neither the bill or hawk recently, but I fear that's more due to my method of getting fights, which is to go somewhere, goad people into fighting me until twenty are angry/annoyed enough to shoot my lone frigate and just volley me :smith: CAUTION
