So I just got the novel yesterday morning and I'm halfway through (chapter 12) and I've liked every word so far.
But there is one thing thats nagging me. At page 182-184 when Heci and Ralea are in the monenstary in Amarr space and the Khuumak is stolen from Theban both of them get concerned when they learn that Theban has started doing background checks on all of them.
Since the checks have already started why would they need to buy more time by selling out the slave Jorek and his family? I found this highly unlike the new characters that Heci and Ralea were becoming. Specially after Ralea found the mine and was obviously saddened by it.
Any body else found this out of place? Or is it something I'm missing? --------------------------------------------------------------------- "But rather than that you question my courage, let someone put his hand in my mouth as a pledge that this is done in good faith" |

From memory, two reasons: 1) Since every one in Ralea's little group has covered their tracks to some degree, it's implied that the likelihood of their past crimes being uncovered depends at least in part on how hard Theban pushes for it, so throwing him a bone would slow down the process, and 2) Ralea knew, deep down, what had really happened and what would take place when it was discovered, but she needed to see it through in order to fully realize what the Amarr Empire can do to its people.

I was a little skeptical about that myself, but now it makes more sense.
I loved the book Abraxas! I now feel a general animosity towards capsuleers, and a little guilty .However, the prologue left me confounded, it just doesn't seem like a rational or logical choice made on Drem's part.
P.S. For your next book, include a little scene with our favorite docking manager... (scotty) "When you are courting a nice girl, an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder, a second seems like an hour. That's relativity." - Albert Einstein |
