i bet u thought this was a nerf whine ???
so my m8 comes to see me yesterday not seen him in over 3 years he asks me u still play eve i say sure he says i would love too but .....
it seems all 3 of his accts passys has been changed and when he looks up his chars they have been active and are in different corps then when he last played over 3 years ago (he has been unable to accsess his comp for 3 years personal reasons)
i asked him how this could happen and a certin friend was suppose to look after the accts while he was away ( this friend is also the reason he was away)
and i tell him u can now sell chars on the fourms but when my friend looked none of teh chars have ever been in teh char bazar and guess what the bad friend does for a living he has an ebay shop if u have any brain u can guess what has happened i told him to petion it but he says he is just gonna forget it as he is homeless atm and don't even have a comp.
i just think its a kick in teeth for him as this friend of his has really fuked him over and some people have really been breaking eula
tldr
my friend has his accts stolen and teh chars sold on ebay and due to his current situation he is just gonna let it ly ... my vid watch now

I hope your friend can get his life back together, however...
This is exactly the result that makes this sort of decision ill-advised. To me, not having my character training at all is much much preferable to giving ANYONE my account credentials.

yeah he has far bigger worrys than eve atm i'll prob just lend him teh isk to get a new char, as said giving his login was beyond stuiped and your just asking for trouboe doing that
i suspect 90% of people petioning accts are people who gave thier accts away then after a while asking for them back the only person who knows my login is me and it will always stay that way.

Why exactly do you think that the new owners of the characters should be punished?

because they aquired the chars against the eula if people stopped doing it then there would be no reason for acct theft or hacking its illegal isk and char buying that causes it there just as guilty, imagine trying to login 1 day and finding you have no char and no isk. all because people are too fail to get what they want by game machanics.

Technically, the characters were sold illegitimatly due to their being involved in account sharing. So the characters should be removed. sucks for new owners, but still....
It's just like in the US (and i assume other countries have laws relatable to this) about purchasing stolen goods....if you KNOW it was stolen, then your just as guilty. If you DON'T KNOW it was stolen, the cops still take the property and say, "sorry, your loss" and walk off with it. You aren't going to jail, but your still out any money you paid for said merchandise.
This isn't much too different.
@OP: Sucks to be your friend and hope that everything gets better.....but this shouldn't be a priority and should be a lesson.

Oh...
I thought you were talking about certain CCP employee still working for the company and still vandalizing the forums with unexcusable lack of common sense and a high dose of stupidity. After laying low for a couple of days and giving people the impression the problem had been dealt with.
*ehem*
OP all I can say is ouch, but this is why you shouldn't trust anyone, specially if the play EVE.
This rule applies double for relatives and RL friends, since they can gank more than your account. __________

If he asked someone to look after them, against the TOS, and seriously expected them to pay for 3 years and give it him back, maybe he's being very naive. Why would anyone do that?

lol? This strikes me a troll bait but I'll bite...
So, your "friend" violates the EULA by password sharing... and now wants help sorting it out?
The only thing I can see a GM doing is banning the account, and rightly so.

He willingly gave away the password for the account, went away without setting any form of ground rules beforehand, and he stayed away for 3 years ? Even completely ignoring the EULA, under absolutely no reasonable circumstances should anybody ever expect him to get the characters on those accounts back. As for the characters, they might have already switched more than just one hand (most likely several already, and at least one very likely via the regular transfer method, just not a public sale), so punishing whoever has them now might not be fair. Or it could be fair, but still.
THIS IS THE MAIN REASON ACCOUNT SHARING IS FORBIDDEN. So CCP doesn't have to deal with people that got shafted by people they trusted to "take care" of their accounts. Almost everything else about account babysitting-type sharing, CCP probably doesn't really care (that's not to say almost borderline encourages it, just not officially)... a subscriber is a subscriber either way. The only kind of babysitting you are "sort of allowed" to have is members of your family (or people you live with) take your account over - CCP have already stated that they can't fairly enforce the ban on account sharing when people of the same household are involved, so they just don't bother... unless, for instance, you are really dumb enough to specifically admit you share an account with a housemate and your housemate shafted you, in which case, you can expect is a ban instead of a reimbursement.
Bottom line, if you go away for a long time, CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT. When you come back, it will be there exactly the way you left it.
If you give it to somebody else, don't expect to get it back. Not even if you know the person IRL. You might get them back, if the person is really trustworthy, but most likely you won't get anything back. Plus, it's against the EULA anyway to give away accounts, so even if you petition you won't be getting it back. You just might get a ban yourself instead.
Rule of thumb : if you WOULD legally donate your car for free to a person while you're out of town for a longer while and you actually expect that person to legally donate it back afterwards, then yeah, maybe. Let me guess... nobody springs to mind, now does it ?

The actions of your friend did break the EULA. The exact phrasing of this is:
You may not share your Account with anyone, or allow anyone other than you personally (or your minor child, if you have registered an Account on behalf of your minor child) to access or use your Account. Joint or shared ownership or use of an Account by more than one user is prohibited.
Generally it is not a good idea to share any of your information with anyone.

Serious question re: the above -
Does this also apply to husbands and wives?
I mean, will I get in trouble if me wife works out me password? ( She has her own accounts..... )

To be honest I think it's rather obvious that the topic starter's friend is in jail and that it's his friend's friend's fault.
Then one druggie just gave the other druggie his account like "hey lolz can you play for me cause I have no other worries", "sure lol", "but don't sell it for dope ok???" - "ok!!! haha no i won't"
This is so interesting and exciting.

You seriously expect CCP to answer that past quoting the EULA? It would open up a vast can of worms to say yes (everyone would claim to be married including ISK sellers and bots and CCP would be blamed for hacks non stop) but to say no would put off legitimate players. How the hell would they find out?
Sometimes it's best not to ask a question so you do not force the answer.
