It seems to be the one Guristas leader who died and the one who survived is all mixed up? I might be reading it wrong or does anyone else seem to notice this?
Edit; Thanks to Julianus Soter for helping me pick it out. ______

How so? As the Crielere page says, Fatal was killed. The book features his old partner, the Rabbit, walking through a garden with the protagonist.

im prety sure that fatal is still alive infac i know he is in the crielere story its says: "Ariko was glad to hear that Fatal, in his typically arrogant manner, had refrained from buying a quality clone of himself and thus found himself with severe memory loss and reduced motor functions, once he was revived after being podded"

I was there at the time, and I thought it was the Rabbit that Doc Brown popped, but I could be recalling incorrectly. It was quite a while ago. --------------

Jirai Laitanen = Fatal Korako Kosakami = The Rabbit
The Rabbit is featured in the book, talking with Drem about his distaste for capsuleers given the fate of Fatal.
I'm kind of glad that it's been clarified that he's dead now after so many years, given the fact it's kind of difficult to write fiction as a Gurista if you don't know whether one of your leaders is alive.

Or maybe Fatal is still out there, but never really recovered from the memory loss caused by only partial transfer of his mind into a clone. Living as a drooling vegetable in the darkest depths of some guristas station.

You know now that I've slept on it I actually might've screwed up here.
In my mind, the Rabbit in the novel had all of Fatal's personality traits and not the reclusive ones indicated in the chronicle. I also remember the Rabbit having this distinct 'tic' from the podding at Crielere. Human memory would be at fault there, though. I'll have to do some more digging I think, Abraxas lol ______

That's a perfectly reasonable stance.
I think of Fatal as having been the more reckless and outspoken, while the Rabbit (these days) chooses his words carefully and sounds a little restrained. Rabbit's way of speaking is perfectly normal for someone who's on the quiet side and who might suffer from stuttering, and who also is now the sole official leader of a powerful faction.
I do not for a second belive that a leader of a ragtag band of pirates would allow himself to stutter continously. He'd get in vocal instructors to take care of the problem, but a ponderous silence in his words would still be detectable.
Also, Fatal is dead to him. As Deviana said, that's not to say Fatal is actually dead...

Ah, very nice. Yes, that makes sense. I've often had to deal with the "big bads" in stories having these quirks they never try to work on. That is probably what threw me for a loop ______

There's never been any doubt that Korako Kosakami was alive, but given the revelation in this thread that Fatal may or may not still be alive kind of throws things up in the air for Gurista Loyalists again.
I thought the book was finally giving an answer to an arc that was abandoned years ago
