Would I be correct in assuming that the 4th hulk should be an orca instead? |

Depends on skill levels.
With a /fully/ skilled orca pilot, they're worth adding as the 3rd pilot.
As they bring the cycle time down to a little more than 2/3rds of the normal time. Thus their output goes up to a little below 150% each. so 2 are just a little worse than 3. And then you get the range boosts, and Ore hauling, meaning the hulks can stay on mining duty (and can be yield fitted, rather than cargo fitted. Or tanked, which makes more sense these days)
If it's not a fully skilled and mindlinked orca pilot, then 4th makes more sense.
There are posts that go over the numbers though. FuzzWork Enterprises http://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/ Blueprint calculator, invention chance calculator, isk/m3 Ore chart-á and other 'useful' utilities. |

iirc i think mathematically it's 4th, but the difference between a third pilot being a hulk or an orca is that small most people use the third as an orca to relieve logistical constraints somewhat. |

OK, I did some more searching and this is what I've come up with (assuming max skills on everyone, and mind link on orca).
1 Pilot; use hulk 2 Pilots: use 2 Hulks and swap one out for hauler every hour or so. 3 Pilots: 2 hulks and an orca. 4 Pilots: 3 hulks and an orca etc
Looks like a maxed out Orca with mindlinks is better than a third hulk, and also aids in the sanity department by providing a hauler.
EDIT: All of this assumes you're going for max yield and don't care about being ganked. if you're worried about ganks, then you want Rohks instead of hulks, but add the Orca at 3rd pilot anyway. |

Indeed the sanity department is the main reason to use one. I have 3 pilots, and it's pretty damned useful in many ways. I wouldn't use Rohks btw. That's just dumb. There are ways to avoid being ganked without having to use them as many people have pointed out here hundreds of times! |

You can look at how much you'll make for your setup in the mining tab of IPH with or without orca. I compare it to my character and alt mining and I usually use my rorq to boost as it's better yield than two hulks actually. But that's mainly because my alt isn't a maxxed hulk pilot yet.

Use Orca whenever mining ore, as the volume produced by even one Hulk is enough to require a dedicated hauler. |

The few times I mine, I'm using a covetor and orca. But then again, That's because my Orca is a highsec exploration support ship.

i got 2 orca one for mining ops (i also use the covetor for HS - even for ice) and one is for scanning holding all the starbase components, retriever, gas sucker and drake, a fitted mammoth and scan rigged probe so i can dock the explorer orca outside and put up a "daytrip" small POS in WHs. clear out the ark / high isk gas of an empty/quiet HS static WH system and be out within 8-12 hours. good fun.
EDIT: oh yeah all this is done with one character while the other two just munch ice all day so as to always be making money when i have an unlucky streak of bad WH systems |

Yea I have 2 Orca as well. One for high sec mining (lows) and one for null sec mining (ABCM). I have thought about ninja WH mining base but the risk v reward isn't worth it in my opinion. |

Orca makes mining life so much more comfortable. Definitely Orca in your case. 4 Hulks and 1 Orca here. EVE-Cost is a manufacturing tool for EVE players. http://www.eve-cost.eu |

^ This for me as well.
Although I do sell my minerals, I mainly bs with a few friends across the country on skype when im home at night relaxing, and enjoy mining while I'm at it. I use it for exploration as well occasionally. |
