Basicly, I never used BS's really. Ive always rolled in cs's or t3's for pve / pvp... So I never bothered to train the 20days for t2 large guns as I never used them.
I have trained for vargur, and fitted ones and with my skills using republic fleet emp I'm getting 770 dps with scouts on eve fit with all level 5. I put t2 guns on and my dps stayed the same @ 770..
I am thinking of rolling a BS maybe maelstrom for various pvp for a change, I do not intend to use T2 ammo because well I like faction ammo for more damage.
Is there something I am missing about the t2 guns that make it worth it over the scouts?

Your not accounting for the Slight Tech 2 Damage Boost from the Weapon Spec Skill. most the time people get it to 8% rarely to 10% bonus damage to tech 2 guns. |

Yeah 25% damage that you ONLY get for the large gun specs....with T2 guns. |

You probably kept the t1 guns in EFT, the extra damage bonus from the spec skill only aplies to T2 turrets. Also having Barrage is awsome. The difference in damage between T1 guns with turret skill at 4 is turret 5, spec 4 with T2 guns is a raw 13% damage increase from skills alone. |

+2% dmg per specialisation level is at least 8% dmg with lvl 4, and this bonus apply for all ammo you use with those.
You don't have to, but you should. brb |

Nope, 2% per specialisation level gives you a total of 10%, not 25%. Now if you add +6 all turret dmg implant and +6 (spec turret) dmg implants that makes a +22% over Large [insert gun type) skill lvl5 only, but no one pvp with implants at 1bil each. brb |

2% per spec, but remember that extra 5% from doing the large turrets basic skill at V too, puts you upto 15% :) |

Go into the character editor of EFT, and put large autocanon spec to 4 or 5, then look at the difference |

Check what Barrage does and if you can find any T1 ammo with properties like that. I like faction ammo and I like it a lot. But I also like Barrage. Shooting stuff at range with autocannons becomes so much easier. |

Look at the range on a Tornado with 2 TEs and Barrage.

Because you are not changing the modules. if you change to t2 guns and then look at the DPS you will see all lvl5 has more dps.
Gun specialization on buffs damage when using T2 guns, even with T1 ammo. So fitting best named t1 guns means you loose out 10% potential DPS.
Also Barrage tech 2 ammo increases falloff, which increases your EFFECTIVE damage at any given range. EFT numbers aren't everything. 1000DPS in optimal means nothing to autocannons. |

Tornado 1400's T2 with Tremor and properly fitted puts nice holes at 245 km, this is also possible with meta 4 but alpha/dps will just be about half of T2 stuff at this range. brb |

I had the same confusion when I did the whole ctrl + click comparisons from evemon, then I read the skill book again, it says "extra 2% damage from modules requiring the specialization skill" that's what makes it better than scouts and of course specialized ammunition.
I know the people above mentioned everything I said, but I posted because I believed I shared his confusion. "WTF "scout" looks exactly the same as "Tech 2!" |

to clear the confusion, I am not stupid enough to not change my guns in eve fit from T1 to T2 lol.. I dont know why people would assume such things.
All I know is with RF EMP and all +5 skills eve fit shows the same DPS for the scount and the T2 ( that I changed...)
I understand the skill that gives 2%.
I think maybe my eve fits not showing correctly, or with +5 skills and RF EMP the dps is the same.. someone go check :) |

T2 always provides a boost in DPS. It is unavoidable (unless you do something wrong, like not selecting the relevant skills). |

This
I use evehq and had the same problem the very first time I used it. Then I saw the "alter relevant skills" option on the right click menu for installed modules. Very nice feature for tinkering with skills to see which ones provide the best increases. |
