So if we build a planet and several launch platforms, are we intended to be able to utilize it as additional storage? I attempted to beam some non- PI goods to the planet and there did not appear to be any restriction. Based on the current configuration you could get quite alot of additional storage by builing a PCC and a ton of launch platforms on a planet you want to use as a "storage hub"
anyone else try that out or have any thoughts?

I tried it today with a PCC that was packaged, thats about 500m3. If this is going to stay live, you could setup a planet as a storage hub and fit quite a bit of stuff on it.
I hope it stays live, I dont really see a problem with having some increased storage opportunities.

if the PI system is instanced u can have a place to have a lot of stuff like ores and minerals so u can mine in null sec and put what u mine in the planet and don't have to pay the fuel of a POS. that is just an option.

You may not have one in that system. 0.0 space is hardly completely populated. Not even high sec empire has stations in every system.
That said, I doubt it's intended if you can "beam down" things other than strictly PI related: in that way you could use planets as storage for ammo, modules, even frigates and cruisers fit in the launchpad cargo. And that even in hostile systems , with NO way for the enemy to destroy your "stash".

Exactly-- I base mostly in nullsec where lots of our space has no stations. Having the ability to safely store 10km3 +++ of goods anywhere is a pretty awesome option.
not to mention that since planets appear to be instanced, the goods are completely safe at the moment.
Thats pretty huge if you operate out of nullsec. If you are an empire guy, then you probably wouldn't see the benefit.

Yeah but like I said... That's probably TOO many benefits. It costs you less than a POS and it's even more well defended in theory...

I'm thinking that it might be tested now, on Sisi, disabled as a feature in Tyrannis and then re-enabled when Dust 514 (I think that's what it's called. Can't be bothered to check up on it now... :P ) is launched, so that it will be less secure. Perhaps the winning team gets the spoils? |

More likely this is a "feature" the Devs hadn't even dreamed of and are now furiously trying to think how to limit the storage for PI items only.

some things cant be stored that way (not going to get into a list but theres a couple of jetcans full of junk next to one of the orbital terminals right now if you want things from ships to ammo to implants)

Well I just did some basic testing and you can't send stuff down (to a planet) that cannot be already produced there, unless you mean stuffing things in to that container that appears when you send stuff up to orbit (question is can it be flipped like regular cans ?)
So it seems they have plugged that little hole pf sending random stuff down the planet or Amarr VII (oris) is hopelessly bugged now.

Edited by: Adunh Slavy on 23/04/2010 22:25:58 Yep, can't send lots of things down. I was able to send down an exotic dancer, and then launch her into space.
I suspect it is not the "good time" she advertised when I picked her up.
