A container like the one there is now when you jettison cargo from a ship, but with an option to set a password for accessing it.
Ps. (Yes, I do know there is the 'The secure containers' you can buy, but they are to small and you will need a transporter to them) |

Everything in eve is risk vs reward. You are accepting the risk of being canflipled in return for geting the reward of having a much larger can to mine into. |

This is where being in a player corp comes in handy, you can mine right into an Orca. |

I think the problem is you haven't thought much about how a 23k m3 container fits inside a 100m3 cargo hold. The best explanation I've seen is to think of a mylar bag that is jettisoned into space is allows you to fill up with stuff. When not in use it can be folded away and take up pretty much 0 space. So while you could put a lock on your space bag it's not tough for someone to come along and laser it open.

i just wish repackaging GSCs reduced the space they took up. what kind of box folds away in to... a box of the same size? |

Damn, I had hoped that eve was a diverse and an open sandbox game, and not one that's lock you down to a single path: you have to be member of the biggest team (Corp.). I was looking for to play the 'Lone Wolf' role, if I do this now it will always be one against a hole team and not one against one (who happens to be a member af a team, which was not with him, so he/her should not had attact me). |

I play a "Lone Wolf" role. I haven't had any problems with it. Just like in real life, I'm often outnumbered but it hasn't stopped me being a lone wolf.
I'm not sure what not having lockable jettison cans has to do with that though. I've never needed one, myself. Not sure why you do either, to perform a "Lone Wolf" role. |

Yes, it was some of a mindleap I just made there from 'Box w/password' to 'Lone Wolf' role, hehe. I have (only) been playing for a md now and the hole time there is this tight rule-web in my face. Am example like with Canflip, mentioned by Zenzbar - what are my options now; to attack the thief with his hole gang waiting a warp away for this, or to run away. I would have like to have an option like: put some C5++ (future c4) in the can, camouflaged as ocre, then have it triggered in the thief's cargo hold. So, to get back to my mindleap, I am sure that some (some as in thiefs and ccp) will see this (the C5++ camouflaged as ocre) as a game breaker. So the next ting that came to mind was this 'Can w/password' idea, just one bit (w/password or not) is that to much to ask for, come on!!! one bit!
ONE BIT or I will never come back for DayZ, hehe... |

If you're so ADD and self-centric that you can't work with the already-existing features in the game, you probably won't stick with Eve in the long run anyways, so I see no reason CCP should pander to you.
As people have pointed out, there are cans you can password, it's your choice if you want to use them or not. But Eve is a game where decisions have consequences, the decision to use a jetcan results in the consequence of no password and 2h lifespan. The decision to use a GSC results in the consequence of having to anchor them and deal with their space limitations. It's a tradeoff.
That said, canflipping isn't nearly the issue that you make it out to be. I spent the first six months of my Eve career mining and never once was canflipped. I have friends who have been mining in highsec for years and have never been canflipped. You just have to be smart about where and how you mine.
Eve isn't a game that will just give you everything, you have to work hard and play smart to get places, just like everyone else does. This isn't a theme-park MMO which will hold your hand the whole way through, this is Eve, where people will hold your hand ... after they cut it off your arm. |

The forums signature editor is kinda buried. You have to go to the dropdown just to the left of your mail notifications and select "Profile settings" and then go to the "Forum settings" section of that page.
I'm not entirely sure that that's signature-worthy though, lol. |

@mxzf, Thank you for your kind words, Sir!
mxzf:"...Eve is a game where decisions have consequences..." So, if I could put some c4 in a can, camouflaged as ocre, then have it triggered in the thief's cargo hold, it will not be a consequence for the canflipper? Or is it that only the offender can make "decisions that have consequences" for the other and you can't counter it? If it is, then I do have a hard time seeing where "play smart" comes in.

Yeah, you got me there, I will be off to play the theme-park MMO DayZ.
By the way, I love the time and thought you have put in your name! |

Honestly, yes, having booby-trapped cans wouldn't be that unrealistic in Eve. However, it would be a nightmare from a programming standpoint to add that to the game. What would be even more keeping with the theme of Eve would be to have a couple corpies in recons decloak when the guy flips the can and proceed to melt the guy's face. Yes, this does require making friends, but this game is a MMO, going lone wolf simply doesn't put you on level ground with someone who has 10 friends with him.
So, yes, the canflipper is running a risk of facing the consequence of having the tables turned on him every time he decides to flip a can. However, he is gambling on you not having friends to protect you. Canflippers are willing to do this because miners fight back so rarely.
And the "play smart" comes into "decisions have consequences" in choosing where you mine. If you choose to mine in a crowded system right next to a trade hub, you are far more likely to be ganked or canflipped than if you are 10j from a trade hub mining in a dead end system with 2-5 regulars on at any given time.
Edit: To expound on the booby trapped can issue, there are a few problems with it. First off, within days people would be dropping cans everywhere which were booby trapped and marking them as free in order to get people to pick up the loot and get blown up. Second, there are issues getting one item to appear to be another item. Especially because any items you can tell apart, the canflipper could tell apart too. All in all, it's better to just make friends than to ask CCP to add in a whole new mechanic to the game. |

Thanks for the pointer. Very useful. In the cold light of day I know what you mean about it not being sig-worthy but it did make me laugh a lot. |
