Let's take the skill books away from NPCs and have players produce them in universities on planets.

Something as essential as skills should be NPC seeded, imho.

I agree. It is not something that is consumed repeatedly, like ammo, modules, or ships, so the market for it would be kind of weird. Prices would fluctuate too much, and harm the newer player.
Better leave them at the universities where they currently are.

There are several problems with player producing skill books. 1) they are an isk sink.
2) currently there are some very rare skill books that are high value finds, if players can duplicate or otherwise produce them they will drop in value significantly.
3) It will reduce the need for traders to transport skill books between regions or for players to go to another region to by skill books. Every major trade hub would have every skill book as a lot of the minor ones would have them as well.
4) over supply, if anyone can produce skill books it will get like invention were the majority of books will not be profitable so will not be made leading so shortages or massive price hikes will happen. Especially for low end skills needed by new players who can least afford a increase in price.
5) it will remove one more reason that the people in 0.0 need to trade with hi sec if they can produce all there own skill books locally to them. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

fixed.
I think npcs should still make skillbooks but their should be some way for players to produce them (planets, space whales etc.).

1) true, though you could slightly lessen the loss of this by making their ingredients cost isk. eg. planetary university running cost.
2) Make skill books take something to produce like bpo's and only have common bpo's available so as not to disrupt this part, bpc's of rare or faction shop skillbooks could be found though.
3) another good point
4) this market manipulation and fighting is all good imo. As long as you keep the npc orders in as a limit young pilots could only benefit from this.
5) This I also see as a good thing. More self sufficiency for 0.0 would be great imo, thought there would still be oportunities for trading as producing stuff in 0.0 is usually more risky. ------------------------------ God is an afk cloaker |
