Edited by: Teinyhr on 25/04/2010 20:27:18 Alright, with all the buzz of the Incarna expansion I started wondering about clones and searched around Evelopedia, but with fairly weak results. So, how do for example jump clones actually work in-universe, or are they just more of a game mechanic than anything? I've understood that creating a "flash copy" of the memories and experiences of a human brain fries them as well, so are pod pilots effectively killing clones everytime they clone jump? Also, when we update a clone - how is this exactly possible? Or is that just a clear game mechanic as an ISK sink? Guess so, certainly wouldn't make sense that there would be numerous versions of the same person rolling around the universe.
Well, this second part would likely have a better place in the features & ideas area, but I have to express my disappointment on the Eve Fiction Portal. It is very cool that it is there, but there just is so very little information in there. And a lot of it is stuff we players just don't know, so it is hard to go update it even though it is a Wiki. This game has mountains of background story, and I'd wish it were more readily available in an easily found and readable format. Many faction articles are just pathetic stubs, pasted and copied of of the wikipediaesque chronicles that are years old. As an example Sansha's Nation's story sounds immensely interesting and I would like to hear more of it's history and current happenings, but, there just isn't much to read about and doesn't look like there is coming, either. I know this might sound a silly suggestion, but if you at CCP have some sort of "EVE Bible" with more detailed information of numerous NPC factions, could you please make someone open it and sit in front of the evelopedia portal for a few months, adding in-depth articles about the world's happenings, historical and recent? IMO it's a crying shame that while there are a ton of interesting stories in this game, most of them are just teasers of stories that have never come or are hidden out of the majority of players way. ------------------- This is Sig. Jump clones were introduced after that article, so I'm not entirely sure how they work.
And yes, I'd like to see more background info also.

One man too many
The commonly accepted difference is that instant emergency cloning has to be performed in microseconds, while jump cloning isn't quite as urgent and thus can be done without killing you.
Upgrading clones? You are simply buying a better contract, to ensure that the clone standing by to receive you has the quality of biomass, neural capacity and hardware necessary to fully accommodate all of your mind. It's expensive for the cloning companies to acquire and maintain all these things you know. -----

Everything in these scientific articles should answer your questions. The scanning only kills the brain when its done instantly upon pod breach. All other times the scan is like a hdd, constantly backing up your brain or something like that.
