Can anybody plz give me a define of what a macro miner is ?
Macro mining is by definition a bad thing, but how much are macro'ed and how many does it (best rough guess)
Are talking about someone who has it all macroed. fly out, target roids, start lasers, make jet-can, launce drones, scoop drones, move ore, fly back, swich to indy, fly out empty jet can, fly back, unload ores, swich ship, etc...
Or are we talking about the simpel move ore from hull to jet-can thing here ?

This is so blatantly abusable in high security space for all the people who have lives and who can have something important to tend to without a moments notice.

Have the client pop up a modal window once in a while if mining lasers are active. An active user would just have to click it away and then he could continue. For an AFK macro miner the macro probably would not be able to cope with it and get stuck.
(ps do not let the window appear on the same place every time, and make the window not active by default so you actually need to move your mouse and click in stead of press enter.)
Of course this would really annoy most real miners so its not a really good solution :(

Mini-game puzzle crap... This isn't Runescape or some kiddy game.
Just make the mining interface easy to use and give decent UI features to all users.
Problem fixed.

uuh - i see a lot of people not liking my idea. How was it called? Macro miner plague? Looks like it¦s a big plague!
If the chanllange can be declined, what do you think the macro will do??? I would set a limit of 3 challanges/day instead.

Think about your idea next time. Griefing potential rating: 100%.
If macro miners are this huge problem, petition them! Then they go bye bye with a bootprint from CCP on their behinds.

stupid idea:
i sometimes travel far distances across the empire... (20 minutes travel and more) in that time, ban me for it I tend to surf the internet or work. If someone duelled my during that period I would be dead. Would suck. You had to put in an option not to be duellable while autopilot is on or something, but sometimes the AP just deactivates for no reason, and it definitely does when you reach your destination ...

No griefing - it¦s only dangerous for people that are AFK and only for those that don¦t move.

I petioned a lot of MMs. It¦s a lot of work for the GMs to catch these cheaters. Why not make it easy and let the cominuty fix the problem? Do you macromine?
If you fear beeing attacked in your indy while beeing AFK - don¦t go AFK without warping to a safespot or station to dock. Quite simple, isn¦t it? And it really fixes macromining. These guys will not get a friendly conversation with a GM. They simply go boom like they should.
Simply restrict the usage of the challange: only in roidfields! So no poor carebearing AFK-indy has to fear to be ganked at a gate while being AFK.
Challange player:
- only if ship is visuall - 10 minute countdown timer - challange is removed if challanged pilot warps away - after 10 minutes challange is active and both players are criminal flagged to each other for 15 minutes - they are restricted to fight in the roidfield
This feature is also great for players that dont like each other and that do not want to move 30 jumps to 0.0 to fight each other. Also orethiefs or corpthiefs can be challanged. You can also challange a -0.1 to -4.9 pirate, if he is bold, he might fight you. Or somebody said something bad to you in local and you want to teach him a lesson. The feature gives you the option to make him run, which is at least some satisfaction.

Like people that are on autopilot and have to run to the toilet/put their baby to bed/whatever, their ship stops at destination and hang around.

It's the GMs job. No I don't macromine, hell I don't even mine these days.
The community can't fix this problem with your solution. Also the community shouldn't be judge, jury and executioner in this, that's what we have GMs for.
The community fixes this problem by petitioning them. That's the fix. Use it.

The "Duel" idea is RIPE for griefer abuse as stated.
However
the "Objective" is to screw over Macro Miners. Stay focused folks.
So make "Dueling" only possible in belts.
I'm one of those folks who does like to go afk now and then when I'm not in an Empire War and staying at or above 0.5+. I'm not going to hand griefers a tool like this that can be used anywhere. But if limited to belts it should work without nearly as much potential for abuse.

Common, there is nothing to fear. It wont get used for exploited piracy since it only works in the belt where the challange has been done. Possible that a larger corp uses it to get a smaller corp away from their favorized belt, but this also could get funny if they challange the wrong small corp and get ripped by them.

Ok, I have two proposals. One is a very simple addition. One is more complicated and would require a good deal more dev attention.
proposal one. A simple captcha attached to the activation of mining lasers. 1- Go to belt, find your rocks and target. 2- Activate mining lasers (Autorepeat ON) 3- Window pops up for each laser requesting a code. For the sake of roleplaying you could be entering the ore seam co-ordinates, as indicated by your ships computer. 4- Mining lasers happily repeat until you're full or you turn them off. Turn them on again, new codes.
Now, an AFK miner can fill up his ship as usual, and stripminers can still empty their holds into space without turning off their beams but there will come a point in any mining op where the lasers will need to be reactivated. A 2 account macro would go some way to defeating this protection but on the surface it looks like it'd cut down a fair bit of macroing.
The second proposal is similar (Still employing a captcha) but it's simply more technical. It requires the addition of either a new module, or a new menu option. Upon targetting a roid and activating the module/option a readout is displayed either in the form of a graph of location-vs-mineral density, or some other such. The miner is then able to select the area to mine. I don't know how many of you out there are familiar with 3 dimesional plots but an XYZ (Or even mapped to XY with constant Z which would be more readable) mapping of mineral distribution would be a good thing. If the rock contains multiple materials (CMON CCP, JUST ONE ASTEROID *cough*) the miner is at liberty to select the optimum point for one type, or a tradeoff for each one, etc. Yeild levels would vary from 0 or 1% to the maximum ordinarily extracted, with the default selection opting for the majority region (0-5% yeild).
So, you add another captcha, and give the miner some power over what exactly gets mined. Throw into the mix asteroid scanning accuracy skills and mining is slightly less of a no-brainer. OK it's not rocket science but hey...
