While I have some serious differences with the BNC leadership, I can 100% assure you that their collective wet dream is massive fleet combat against worth opponents of similar numbers, while drunk and getting a hummer from supermodels. =====
Yeah I'm sure they were dreaming of worthy opponents when they decided to backstab their former friends.
I'm sure it wasn't a case of "if you can't beat em, join em."
It's like a kid who gets bullied in school, can't fight em so he befriends them, and ends up bullying his own former nerdy friends who can't fight back.
As for Mr E-thug, I clean your momma's stables every night, BOY, now go fetch me a cup of coffee and make sure my shoes are shined. Pfft.

CCP handles it 1,5 years now and i still see macrominers in game. I think a more brutal solution would be handy. GMs usually are not sure if the macrominer really used a macro or not. A player doesnt have to care about it - if the guy doesnt move for 10 minutes -> kaboom.

Originally by: Lifewire I said duels are limited 3/day. Make it 1/day. It¦s enough to get rid of the macrominer plague and cannot be exploited. I am really not interested in anoying some poor n00b miners. But if there is no traffic in Syndicate, i would love to go online with my Ibis-alt, fit 2 neutron balsters S and sink a macrominer...could be great fun to see the cheaters ISK go boom. Recheck my proposal:
- duel can be declared only in belt - timer of 10 min starts to countdown - challanged player gets a big warning message - challange ends if challanged players warps out - otherwise duel starts after 10 minutes and both guys can shot each other for 15 minutes - only 1 duel per day per player
How exploit this?
easy change for macro miners: "undock, warp to belt, lock nearest roid, approach, mine, dock, empty cargo hold and repeat" (every 10 minutes) this would increase the serverload even more :(
maybe this could work: - rouge drone visits belt and picks random target to orbit (training drone with warp scrambler -20) - drone spawns when a ship is in belt (10% chance every 3 minutes) - when the scrambled ship is still there after 5 minutes, the drone calls for npc/drone reinforcements and the miner is moved to the pod (or gm) - this could also stop the afk industrial miners
problems here: fof missiles, sb, drones ok sb wouldn't be a problem (just get close and concord finishes)
and what about one trail account online per IP?

What I really can't understand is why someone would set themselves up to get caught macro mining like that...At least name your characters something else...
OMG****IEPANTS1 OMG****IEPANTS2 OMG****IEPANTS3 OMG****IEPANTS4 OMG****IEPANTS5
If you see those guys mining in a belt with Apocs, I wonder what chance there is you're macro mining...

Lifewire's solution is a bit much indeed imo.
Altho there indeed seems to be nothing a player can do about macros that do not employ a hauler. No amount of bumping or stealing can hinder an apoc enough to break the macro it seems, and there is nothing to be stolen this way either.
Nothing but to hope a GM feels confident enough to do something after the umpteenth petition.

Edited by: Calsak on 03/12/2004 14:00:40 TBH, like an earlier poster on this thread I'm not familiar to what extent people take macro-mining but either way I'd just like to share this with you all and you can then you can imagine how hard these things can be to stamp out.
A work colleague of mine plays a different MMOG and he is a professional programmer. He has created an external program that takes a screen grab of the game every X number of seconds. The program then uses TWAIN to scan the grab and translate this into text. This information is then transmitted via the internet and other players using the same piece of software can now 'see' where their fellow squard members are and even plots everyone's position on a map (all this without any effect of game speed). This obviously gives this squad of players an unfair advantage over any other enemy squads who cannot co-ordinate their actions as my mates squad can (there is no in game 'radar' to plot player positions btw).
Totally unfair IMHO and one reason I no longer play that MMOG but my point is that people who have the skills to write things such as this are going to be VERY difficult to halt by any game developer. You can't stop people running another program while playing a game and you can't stop people taking screen shots!
Unfair play will be impossible to stop but by making it more difficult for the 'layman' to do it then the majority of the players will have to be honest. Thats my 2 penny's worth...

Quote: Lifewire's solution is a bit much indeed imo.
My solution is at least a solution that works. No long discusssion with GM, no petition, no proof and anti-proof, no screenshot that could be faked - it¦s a simple solution and simple solutions mostly work good. The guys doesnt move for 10 minutes in belt? His problem, kaboom!
What makes me wonder everytime when macromining is discussed are these masses of people that argue in a way to keep macro-exploiting possible. These guys make me think that the game is full of macrominers. Even well known players or alliance guys argue that way. Scary - how many of these hidden cheaters are in the game???

Sad that you had to stop this game because of cheaters. But here in EVE there would be a chance for players to kill macrominers while they are vulnerable: while macromining . The "cheat" when doing macromining is, that you get ISK and later can go to pvp with top-equipment like arbalest lauchers, while to normal player comes with standard stuff. That is the cheat. Since all players want to gain ISK and ranking is also affected by the wealth of a player, macromining is 100% cheating. There is no excuse that it¦s only because mining is so boring and so on. Mining is boring - doesnt make it ok to use a cheat!
The problem can be fixed by the community - all we need is an instrument the DEVs give us.

Because like many anti-cheat solutiosn that have been discussed in other games, theres a large chance of people getting accused of cheating, ask the many q3 players who got booted from punkbuster servers. Your idea is so far from perfect its laughable.
Fine out this in the game ill go do it to every afk person ill get soem nice named loot and expander \o/, i've robbed ore, i've jacked in 1.0 id abuse this too.

O also i think you'll find most ebayers are in legit alliances out in 0.0 mining zyd, with 3 accounts you could make like 100mil in 30mins without any macros and sell the isk on ebay, i have no clue how long it'll take to do the same with veld in empire i would imagine a few days at least.

Originally by: Lifewire i would love to go online with my Ibis-alt, fit 2 neutron balsters S and sink a macrominer...could be great fun to see the cheaters ISK go boom.
I would assume by this that any insurance taken out of ships or equipment would be null and void if lost in one of these duel? If not then the 'macro-miner' would of only lost the time that his now ex-ship is no longer mining.
Obviously the draw back here from my point of view is when I'm minging I stay at my k/board, the game is on screen and I'm reading a book or such, keeping one eye on the game but not moving my ship for probably 30-50mins so in affect your 'His ship hasn't moved thus he is a macro-miner' rule comes in affect. You post a duel, I say "WTF!" and as I'm equiped for a mining job I start trying to extract as much minerals from your armor as I can...Unfortunatley I'm not around long enough for this tactic to work.
I'm now without a ship, no insurance pay out and would probably think you're a very naughty man...In fact (if I had the ISK) I'd but a rather large bounty on your head. This would then find you attract quite a bit of attention when entering populated areas and all this from trying to rid the universe of macro-miners.

There is absolutly no problem - the guy doesnt get accused, he gets blown up. His problem if he is AFK in a belt. Even if he really was only AFK and not macromining Ý see no problem - his fault to be AFK in a roidbelt.

Great idea! On the other hand the duel feature could also be funny to have a quick fight in empire with a guy that wnats to fight too and no insurance would make people fear duels. But fine for me: no insurance
