I'm vaguely under the impression that the "orbital bombardment" thing is a thing that has to be called for by one of the Dust teams against a target specified by said team. I really don't think you will be able to just rock up and start dropping quad-1400mm Fusion XL rounds at random into battlefields. Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.

I have to agree with the stupidity of this "Kill the Dust players" just because we are PC gamers. Why are you so intent on destroying a new game mechanic before you're even a part of it? Second, having played consul games for years, all the Halo games, Call of Duty, ect, I'm well aware of the player base of consul gamers. They wont sit and play a game where everyone betrays them and ruins the game experience. Theres no reason to play a game like that. If you were in a fleet in Eve, took fire from your own fleet member, but you couldnt do anything about it, you'd be pissed off. If this happened over and over, you wouldn't fly in those fleets, it ruins the experience.
Yes I agree that betrayal is a mechanic of Eve and I'm all for it, but the immaturity of some people here having no objective other than to ruin somebody else's game is pretty sad. Thankfully I dont believe everyone is as childish and actually want to see this gaming innovation succeed. Also, if the system gets abused, its just going to get nerfed. CCP will doubtfully let you tank their project because you're an idiot.

I'm sure they can, but a soldier on the ground with a rifle and a tank are going to do what exactly against a dread? Also, the batphone part is kind of obvious, its kinda blatantly obvious that Eve players will fight each other in orbit. I know this is a new idea, since Eve spaceships dont ever fight Eve spaceships... |

Being both an EVE player and a longtime PS3 gamer, all this hostility between DUST and EVE players just seems silly. Both groups seem desperate to prove the stereotypes they hold about the "other side". Everyone is just in it to have fun. Of course FPS gamers are looking for a different type of experience than your average EVE Online player, because they are two totally different types of games. That's what makes this thing such an interesting experiment.
I'm pretty sure the games are going to be integrated slowly enough and carefully enough that it won't disrupt the greater EVE universe too much. Obviously CCP isn't out to turn the whole PI economy on its head. Obviously CCP isn't gonna let DUST players ruin EVE, or let EVE players ruin DUST. Interaction between the two is going to be relatively indirect. I can guarantee that EVE players won't just be able to bomb the battlefield and kill all the dusters. CCP isn't stupid, after all.
I'm sure it will take over a year for the two games to be fully integrated. In that time, FPS players who are turned off by the depth of the economic system, or who lack the patience or maturity to be useful members of merc squads/eve corps, will eventually be weeded out. If they don't enjoy it, they will stop playing. If they do enjoy it, then they will be forced to be contributing members of the EVE universe in order to succeed.
There's always a chance it isn't going to work out well, but it'll at least be interesting to see what happens. As far as I know CCP is the first game developer to try something like this. |

Orbital Bombardment is what we're talking about. There certainly will be limits, but there's nothing stopping you from making a deal with both DUST groups and cheating one (or both of them), like what happened in the Trailer for DUST. You just need a pair of boots on the ground to help you betray them. -RubyPorto

I'm pretty sure that the Dusties are well aware what a bunch of evil sadistic backstabbing megalomaniacs Eve players are supposed to be, if they aren't they soon will be. Eve is about emergent gameplay & betrayal and the sooner they realise it, the sooner they can start playing us at our own game, especially if they have good corp leadership that have experience of the spaceships side of things. I hope that the Dusties that stick to the game have the opportunity to be as inventive in their use of game mechanics as Eve players have been, I can see a whole new meta-game evolving with new ways to screw both friends and enemies alike in both games.
You can be pretty sure that the forums of Reddit and Something Awful are actively recruiting for Dust and if their Eve corps are anything to go by we are going to see some interesting developments in both game play (bring on the betting cartels) and strategy (stabbing your spaceship employers in the back while your Eve collaborators strip their assets)
Unleash the gladiators, and place your bets please. War hasn't been fought this badly since Olaf the Hairy, High Chief of all the Vikings, accidentally ordered 80,000 battle helmets with the horns on the inside. |

People all seem to forget that a good portion of DUST player will also be EVE players...so even if a large amount of console FPS players can't handle our megalomaniac ways then there will always be players on EVE
Just not as many as there could be.
And plus I look forward to hiring merc's to fight each other and give some financial incentive to the winner (although that could turn into a orbital bombardment depending on my mood) The diffrence between WoW and EVE is that in WoW a fellow player will help you gain vaulable items and then go on their merry way.
The same happens in EVE, only once you have the items the fellow player beats the cr*p out of you and takes them. |

Seriously, hiring mercs to take over planets for you, how does this not sound interesting? But if you make all the players of Dust leave because of constant betrayal, no one will play it, thus destroying a major improvement, as well as a major innovation to the gaming world.

But if you make all the players of Dust leave because of constant betrayal, no one will play it, thus destroying a major improvement, as well as a major innovation to the gaming world. 1) It's In the Trailer, I think the Dev's have been clear enough about their intentions. 2) I doubt there will be any more backstabbing between EvE players and Dusties than there is between EvE players alone, and EvE, as the 3rd biggest paid western MMO, is doing Ok. 3) Dusties will be able to betray us, too. Its like talking to a wall... Your SO sure that the console crowd, who has the notorious reputation of being the most immature, is just going to sit back and let themselves be taken advantage of like that. I dont think so, if they get annoyed enough at a game, they will leave, and then the game will go down the drain. But whatever, trying to argue this is useless, everyone here is just going to keep going along with the plan of trolling the Dust players.
I'm sure it will be balanced in some way, and don't think for a second that orbital bombardments are the end all be all of ground combat, they have to be setup, lased, and executed. It did not seem like a supremely fluid ordeal in the EVEfanfest demo.
Not to mention, even with bombardments, I guarantee the odds will fall to the underdog more than you'd like to think. |

Would like to see a 'game-cam' browser plug-in, so we can watch the games in real-time from whatever angles etc we want.
The Unreal Engine has the ability to do this, fairly easily too.
Could probably build it into Gate.

TL:DR
A few points that may have been missed:
Dust players expect to get paid to fight each other so what the OP proposes wont really be a problem
Even if you bombard them it wont be a game winner, they will respawn 10 secs later while you sit twiddlin yr thumbs waiting on your bombardment cooldown
Alot of those dust corps will have an eve shadow, expect your corps to get eve griefed.
You will get blacklisted and when you get invaded and stick up a defence contract they will all laugh as they refuse to defend you from their friends

Yes, because there are only going to be a handful of Dust corps and I won't be playing the game myself - thereby, defending myself.
You are so naive. It's cute though. I could give you a collar and a leash, feed you out of a bowl, pat you on the head/scratch behind your ears and call you Ralph.
