So I guess I didn't get the memo, or I've been away from EvE for too long, but I just found my first radar site since I've skilled up enough to solo them, and I was extremely pumped up and excited to do it. I switch out from my covops to my raven, easily solo the 8+ BS's, and then warp out to switch into my covops so i can hack the databases. I warp back in, get to one, and as I go to the others a nice spawn of 10 frigates appears out of nowhere. Ok, I expected that, so I warp back to station, but the codebreak on my raven so I can just do it all at once, and I warp back in to find...
EVERYTHING IS GONE.
Ok, seriously, what was the reasoning behind having complexes and explorations sites despawn within 5 minutes of completion? Make it impossible for sites to be soloed by people who can't afford more than one character?

Deadspaces have been despawning like this since before Apocrypha.
The rules are: deadspace will despawn when "objectives" are completed (eg: all NPCs killed, or item looted, or whatever) and all players have left the grid.
Yes, rather annoying for people trying to solo these encounters. Try making some friends - surely there are folks on MM alliance chat who can help you with your exploration endeavours?

Well, knowing that, I'll just have a friend come in with a salvage boat. I just wanted to see if I could do it all on my own, apparently its not possible =/

Just throw a codebreaker on your raven...

Apart from putting a codebreaker on your Raven, you could have a look at HACs such as the Ishtar, which use the drones for DPS leaving some slots free for probe launcher, salvager, code breaker, analyzer, and even a cloaking device.
For an exploration partnership you could try two Force Recon ships (eg: Pilgrim + Rapier). Safety of a covops cloak, drones for DPS, slots free between the two of you for probe launchers, analyzers, code breakers, salvagers, etc.

This behaviour of the sites is extremly stupid and when i made this the first time, i did a petition on it and i seriously thought it is a bug.
Its one of the badest features ccp made with it, IMHO.
I was doing a very good pocket and because lack of perfect skills it took me very long time to find it, make it, kill everything and then i wanted to loot it.
I was doing with some friends together. Then we had a connnection loss in our area. After login in back everything was gone. And this happened several times because we are living in an area and do not have always a perfect internet connection.
This REALLY SUCKS.
Why the sites dont just have a timer which make them disappear after, lets say 1 hour ? Its just stupid how it is now.

I agree it is pretty stupid.
Maybe it is to try force you to stay in the site if hostiles come or lose your shinies...who knows

I think the best idea is to work toward all-in-one Exploration ships. The best of these are the various Recons, The Ishtar, and all of the T3 cruisers. On your way to working toward one of these, hop in a t1 drone cruiser and off you go, fitting your highs w/ t2 cloak, probe lnchr, and slvgr, filling your mids w/ the necessary codebreaker and analyzer. If you must use your Cov Ops, then you now know that it's only going to be useful for you to actually scan the sites and then you'll have to switch over to a combat-capable ship sporting the particular mod that is needed. I find this to be quite annoying and for that reason, I think instead of going against the grain, you simply try to fit up an all-in-one ship. It's quite likely that you'll still need a separate ship for jumping WH if you're using say a Vexor or Arby for high sec & low sec exploration, probably something beefier for many of the combat plexes.

If you do not want to use an all-in-one boat just carry a codebreaker, analyzer, and salvager in your combat ships cargo. Once you know what site you've found you should be able to sacrifice 1 mid slot (or 1 high for the salv) for the correct tool in station before you fly out to clear it in the combat vessel.

Edited by: Grayclay on 30/04/2010 21:50:44 I have no problem with using a covops to scan down and then switching out. I did manage to make a Cerberus that can tank 561dps with 108k ehp against Guristas, and puts out 235dps. I'm going to test it out, and if it can break the tank of a BS, then I'm pretty much good to go =)

ARRRRRRGGG They need to fix pve so i can warp to a site, kill a t1 frigate and drop a can with deadspace loot in it!!!!
Just playing though. The theory behind this goes like this 1. Reduces Lag: Many many moon ago (years) all cans lived for hours, you would warp to a belt and lag out because there were 500 cans. 500 cans times 20,000 systems equals bad. 2. LAG 3. LAG
The despawn timer gives you more then enough time to warp to a station or POS and switch ships. If you disconnect.... Well so sorry.
Not knocking anybody and i totally understand that having 1 account this day and age is basically a disadvantage.
Gray, just go out with a buddy and and have him help. You can probably do 3x as many sites with 2 people then 1 so it will probably be more profitable.

Edited by: Grayclay on 01/05/2010 22:15:25 Well I understand, but heres my issue with it;
The way this is designed, not in theory but in actual practice, exploration is much MUCH easier with Gallente ships, specifically the Ishtar, because drones free up SO much space for utilities. Is it fair to me to be at a disadvantage just because I chose Caldari when I started playing, and it takes months and months to switch over to Gallente ships just so I can actually be proficient at exploration?
However, I know the obvious flaws in that argument, so no need to point them out.
My main argument is that its completely unfair that only having one account to play with puts me at a disadvantage. The advantages of having multiple accounts are fine, but its completely unreasonable to essentially penalize me for only having one account. Of course CCP doesn't care, as I have to pay twice as much now.
That, and why SHOULDN'T I be able to solo them? Is it MY fault that alot of my corp mates are off in battles that I can't afford to fight in? Or the rest are AFK? Or that I can't bring neutral friends out to a war zone?
BUT.
Don't worry, I know full well what any counter-arguments are to this argument. I just wanted to rant, as I don't want to turn this game into easy mode. So I'll get a corpmate over to my system and we'll make some bling. 'nuff said.

There is a 2 minute timer that triggers as soon as you activate a can in a radar site. You can kill all the rats, warp out and come back an hour later as long as you don't activate the cans. All you need to do is fit a codebreaker on your BS and hack the cans, hardest thing I have ever seen spawn from activating a can was a very low end BS.

Radar sites 101 -
Ship 1 scans the sites down and punts ship 2. Ship 2 tanks the site, kills all the guards and hacks all the cans.
Tip: Ship 2 needs to be reasonably fast, otherwise you are going to get bored rather quickly. MWD is a must. Battlecruisers is be the biggest ship class you should be looking at. HACs do well.

Tis rather daft. Ie i can clear an 8/10 in a drake solo for massive reward...but to run something that could yield 30mil tops i have to use two accounts. best solution is give them a 30min despawn timer, or make a BC version of the covops frig - something suited to probing out and running ladar/radar/magno sites unsupported.

I feel for you. This happened to me alot in zero zero. There some one comes in the sytem start probing and you have to leave. A real pain.

This looks rather promising. I've got my cerb tanked out even with the exploration module, but if i could use this to my advantage, its a win-win situation :)

it doesn't take two accounts. it's relatively easy to tank most radar sites with a codebreaker fitted and even if you can't for some reason, as long as you don't tamper with a can the site will stay up indefinitely, so you have plenty of time to go back and get your codebreaker fit ship.
the 'BC' version of a covops frig you're looking for is a t3 cruiser with the covops subsystem, by the way. but I've done it just fine in regular bcs.

would u guys be equally upset if someone had come in and jacked all the loot while you were off warping around? i would, and thats why i take a ship in capable of performing all the tasks from the start.
Lesson learned? be prepared... If i find a radar, i BM it, dock, put on a codebreaker before i go in (although a codebreaker is standard on my scanship, sometimes i switch for a analyzer, just cuz of that single time i had t2 salvage out of the 100 i freakin did while probing highsec). TBH, i didnt even know these sites despawned that easily, i never lost a single radar hahaha. Did lose a 4/10 TWICE tho in the same day because i had the wrong tank built, and had to warp out after i cleared the first room and its overseer. took me two times to figure this out, and i managed to continue on my way without complaining and havent lost a single site since. solo.
Worked in my favor yesterday as well, caught a guy midway thru a 4/10 and managed to catch up and jack the double Pith C passive shield amps seriously about 5 seconds before he got in range.
i gave him 5 mil because i felt bad :-(
