Hey guys, I just started playing EVE about a week ago, but I'm advancing really quickly. I'm looking to start a career as a 1v1 fighter or pirate. (I'm not sure which, yet). I've been reading a lot of guides and I've been training the appropriate skills for a Caldari Frigate with potential killing ability. I'm currently using the Merlin. I really love PvP in any MMO and I think I'll love it in EVE too. So what I'm wondering is if anyone would be willing to give me advice or examples of decent affordable loadouts. Id be very grateful of any and all help. Thanks, Pr3stige

Hi and welcome, read up on these forums about rifters, king of low sp pvp acording to pretty much everyone which is very rare in such an multifaceted game like eve.
Then make some kindof of plan how you can get 10 of them, then go out and blow up until you get which targets you have a shoot at engaging.
pvp'ing with people with more knowledge than you will vastly speed up the process, the recomended route here is usally RvB or FW.

Register with Battleclinic (it's free) and look around in the "Loadouts" tab. After you have done this, fit something, go out, and play with it until it dies. Rinse and repeat.
Before you go into PvP-land let me give you a "heads-ups" on some things:
- there is no such thing as a fair fight in EvE... if someone challenges you to a 1v1 assume they are lying and have back-up on standby.
- you WILL die. No exceptions to this. If you don't die today, you will die tomorrow. -- to expand on the last point: don't get attached to any one ship. They are, in the end, just tools. And some tools do a better job in one thing and not so well in others.
- fitting a PvP ship is different than fitting a PvE ship: in PvP you want to be able to do as much damage as possible, as quickly as possible. -- play to the ship's inherent strengths. Frigates should be fast and ganky, battleships should be tanky and ganky, and cruisers some variation in between.
- show your manners... even if others do not. In fact, if someone is being disrespectful and verbally abusive towards you, ignore him/her. He/She is trying to provoke you.
- don't be afraid to ask questions... even if it is from the person who just killed you. Most of the time he/she will give you some pointers on what you did wrong and how to improve yourself. -- take all advice with a grain of salt... some will apply to you more than others.
- if you are REALLY lost on the "art" of PvP then find a PvP corp who will take you in and teach you. Some places to look into would be EvE University, Red Federation, Blue Republic (Red vs. Blue), or one of the many corps who are in Factional Warfare. _______________________

Edited by: JerseyBOI 2 on 27/05/2010 13:06:42 fly cheap. Especially in the beginning. The less expensive you fly the more you can fly. Get to know the mechanics first, then develop your style of combat. Continually PVP. Consider this, the better players in this game are not the ones who've been around the longest but the ones who've logged the most time in combat. So get in that Rifter, Incursus, or whatever and keep at it. Find a corp and group of peeps that your judgement tells you will help in this endeavor....and all the stuff the guy said three replies up. Edited by: Tom Willson on 27/05/2010 20:19:24 Hello welcome to EVE.
Merlin for your convenience. While sometimes providing less setups it will certainly be easier to find them and often find much more setups worth a damn on scrapheap challenge in addition to discussions between veterans on the boards.
Feel free to convo me in game for any advice/pew pew realtime-wise and don't be afraid of losing anything or fearing your enemy. Approach every fight in a logical manner:
Identify your target and how to kill it. If you feel like you cannot (droneboats) do not engage to save you the ISK or attack and rely on luck and that the other guy might be a fool.

My suggestion for a new player like you is to consider joining one of the red versus blue corps that have a perpetual war going on in high sec. It is about the closest thing you can find to pvp on demand in high sec and frigates and destroyers are often involved in the combat. While I have never been a part of it I have been at war with both corps and I suspect it is a great first experience for many folks in high sec pvp. I think its Red Federation and Blue Republic or something like that if you wanna go look for them. They mostly hang out near gallente space.
It is far easier than starting pirating and probably easier than starting faction warfare too.

Do that except change battleclinic to Scrapheap Challenge Battleclinic has way too many failfits. Scrapheap has a lot better choices and discussions of why they're better. I'd also tell you to consider joining Agony Unleashed, a PvP teaching corp.
I second the suggestion to train up Rifters, they are unbelievable.
Good luck in finding a fair 1v1 fight though...

Hi pr3stige, Merlin is fine for starting pvp, they have a fine tank. For 1v1s I suggest you think about using 2 rockets and 2 railguns with antimatter, stasis web and warp scrambler, afterburner and medium shield extender; you'll need a micro auxiliary power core to fit it. Use your afterburner and web and scram to keep range to 6-8km to avoid the worst of your opponent's close range frigate ammo/guns. You'll need good range on your rockets so check up the missile skills required. Mail me in game and I'll let you know where you can get all the frigate 1v1s you can possibly want.
