While I agree with general sentiment, you gotta admit that most gamers develop an innate "**** detector", especially when it comes to MMO or MP games, and can predict with an amazing degree of accuracy if/when it will flop, and how. I know a guy who predicted down to a month when Age of Conan would go free to play, two years ahead of the actual event. I kid you not. I dare say most of us saw what would happen with SWTOR too. And while fanboys shouted us down, those same fanboys were some of the first people to jump ship when it started listing to port. And of course most of us have foreseen the predictable outcome of titles such as Mortal or Darkfall Online, there was never any doubt in the outcome. I guess my point is, you don't need to have played a game to be able to predict with high degree of accuracy what would happen to it in near future. In Dust's case, it's an FPS game for consoles with a link to a cerebral MMO on PC. It's like putting an elevator in an outhouse - it don't belong. So... you are asking me to believe that the opinion of people who haven't the slightest idea of what the actual game play is like have a more valid opinion than people who have actually played the game... and are insinuating that people who actually get involved in the beta are only fanbois who can not form an honest opinion? Really? At what point did your post actually make any sense to you what so ever... All you have to do is ask yourself a simple question. Does Dust514 have the guns, features and maps to pull players from the Top FPS on the market. COD, BF3 and MOH? I do not have the answer but answer that question and that will tell you if Dust will successed or fail. Personally I believe BF3 is the best FPS on the market by far and the most fun game modes (Gun master anyone?)
Do you understand what you are saying? You know of course that these FPS players are the most fickle group of gamers around. Here today gone tomorrow. They are not loyal to any game for very long. As soon as something new shows up off they go. It is the crowd mentality that is after cool effects and splashy game play. CCP can not hold their interest for long. A game with great game play and story line is not what these guys want. So CCP is entering this market with a dichotomy of ideas, then add in presure for a hit game from sony, the head office and you have a recipe for disaster which could threaten to roll over into EVE. What does sony expect from DUST and how much of CCP's resources will they demand get used to make it a hit even if it flops or has no staying power? Will both companies misread the player base? I see a disaster mounting of epic proportions. |

I do think BF3 is "ONE" of the best FPS out there, but you quoting "Gun Master" to be the most fun game mode in BF3 makes me believe you are just a COD fanboi...which questions me your whole credibility.
CQC and Gun Master is only a tiny bit of offering in the BF3 setting, in fact, it's more akin to COD, and not what BF3 is actually like. Yeah, the new DLC is a change of pace and I don't think it's a bad thing, it's even quite enjoyable, but that's not what BF is exactly about.
Now go play Dust and tell me which of the games it's more like. And don't even begin with MOH...it's so insignificant at this point...The players Dust will draw is from the Mag crowd and the BF crowd. And I don't think Dust have any problem doing it as long as CCP fix many of the annoyances currently in Dust.
PS If you don' t have an answer, you might as well shut up.

BF3: 2 kinds of Tanks (one per team) 2 kinds of APCs 1 of those ugly swimming tanks 3 Jets 4 Helicopters 2 Anti-Air Vehicles and either 3 or 4 LAVs Oh and 1 type of boat
Thats 18-19 kinds of vehicles
DUST514: 4 Tanks, plus 4 Marauders (Better higher skill requirement tanks) 4 Dropships and 4 more advanced versions 4 LAVs and 4 Advanced logi LAVs 4 Fighters 4 MTACs, Mech suit things

And yet a game like MAG sold 1.25m and people are still playing it. You obviously think that the bf/cod crowd are all the fps players. They're not. There are many more fps players that hate those franchises. |

It needs to be on the PC.
I don't think that the PS3 can really do it justice.
It can still be free to play on PC. No need to have to deal with the Windows Live! barrier. ( The xbox 360 subscription service to play online ).
Before long I'm sure that CCP will probably start to realize this.

which is why TF2 has had 4 million players on PS3 for the past 3 years....
Riiiiiiight, console players won't keep playing a constaly updated graphicaly fps for years. As long as dust still looks as good as any modern shooters, even 7 years from now, it will continue to keep players. People said the same thing abuot eve, that it would fail and no one would playt it.
Dust is going to be big BIG ****. A new graphical Unreal engine 4 version will most likely be a launch title on the PS3 given ccp's history of making 9 year old video games look cutting ******* edge. Do you realise how pretty eve is and it's 9 years old? The same thing will happen in dust it will be that pick up and play game that millions of people play maybe once a week.
But as it will always been updated with new expansions the game will see 1-2 months of high actviity. I think they continue even into 4-5 years from now. It doesn't need to beat those other shooters if those other shooters are replaced with a brand new fps you have to start leveling up all over again.
Dust will look cutting edge even in 10 years. I think when it has gaint robots and lava worlds this game is never going to die. It might never break say, 1 million players. But since when did 1 million players become a low number? that's not a bad number, about how many players that new Starwars mmo has.
And if itupdates like eve does, over the years it will become a better game. Because other companies don't keep 100 devs on their games for 10 years after release. BF3 is a smaller team now. But CCP will pump money like nuts into this title, and it's going to keep draging people back in to try to the new thing in that free to play game.
And then one day it'll come out on the PC I'm sure, as they get closer and closer anyways. And then you can play it too, when ti's got 3 extra years of updates. Don't underesitmate what this games devs are capicable of.

Let's not forget about the untested factor that Dust will introduce: namely that a player can become a somebody in it and make a name for him- or herself. This factor alone could attract tons of players all by itself. Assuming there are any console players that are willing to put a wee bit of effort that is.
Vanity and e-peen hunting are hardly rare traits amongst console gamers - or any gamers regardless of platform for that matter. |

Even CCP people play Eve, and Starcraft, and WoT, and LoL, and ....
Why would Dust being on PC take anyone away from Eve? It would only strengthen the link.

But hey, it is their paycheck to lose if they want to only support a small portion of the console market so be it.

That is pretty much the way I see it going as well. Maybe 500k loyal players is a bit strong but something like that. I think about 100k of those players will come from EVE itself though. Can not play both games at the same time now. So watch for EVE to lose some 100k players after Dust launches. Sure they might log on once in a while to EVE maybe to support a ground mission but that will have some impact on EVE population. |

FPS do not belong on Consoles, Consoles should be for sports, Air combat and racing games. PC for everything else. There is a reason PC players are not allowed to play on the same servers as console players when it comes to FPS and that reason is PC gamers kick the crap out of console gamers because the mouse and keyboard smoke a console controllers.

Bit late responding but dont overlook that dust is built on the unreal engine partialy due to unreal haveing full antive keyboard and mouse support rather then relying on a half baked keyboard and mouse supprt that's ben jamed into a console specific engine. Just because some games suck on ps3 with keyboard and mouse support dosnt mean they all will and nobody can judge dust kbm support until they have used it and even then there's that damn nda |

Yet this isn't OOPE, so i'll stop listing other games. If anything - there really are plenty more games that can only really be appreciated & run on a PC as opposed to the constrictions a console makes on development. |
