5 threads have received any input in 12 EU daytime hours today.
What happened? Have the scams driven people off? Has posts removed by CCP gotten people annoyed? Or is the market in EVE just old news, no new challenges, all been seen before.
For myself, I got a bit tired with MD drama a couple months ago, but by now I'd like to see a bit more of that thanks.

Yeah. I noticed the same being the last replier on two threads here for hours this morning.
Either: Industrial and marketeering people have a common urge to suddenly go on holidays in this time of the year, or and this might be more likely; they are all terribly occupied with test server PI stuff; planning devious strategies, making spreadsheets, calculating potential profits, etc. Help us to make parrots game related today! |

Btw Mothers day weekend is the busiest restaurant day of the year, so, as I'm a server, my day sucked, and I couldn't contribute to the MD forum. Also, I'm busy with .01ing to post, as was mentioned. In other news I'm buying T4U shares at 1.05M each.

Nevertheless, there are fewer posts in May 2010 than in May 2009.
A quick look via EVE-search (search on the word "not" on MD forum) gave me 367 posts in May 2010. Same period last year had 557 posts, and the months January-April 2010 had between 500 and 700 posts each.
So there is no doubt that MD is suffering atm. ----------------------- Join "Signatures" channel - the chatroom for traders |

Throwing out random oddnesses here... Posting graph of MD since Januaray - Linkage
It do seem to go down yes, but on the 16th of April a big drop which lasts for about a week. I posted my Jita thread on the 14th, and also it was confirmed a lot of spam was gone a while after that thread as well, could MD posters and spammers be linked? Either by stop posting or perhaps accounts banned (temp/fully) during the period...
Overall the posting habits of the forum has remained pretty constant (apart from when the server died last week as the posting spiked pretty good then).

As i said earlier , try the same thing on evesearch for the other forums and i think you'll see that in general there is less posting and it is not something that is only 'effecting' MD forum.
I could be wrong offcourse but i am a frequent follower of all eve-o posts appart from events and gatherings/recruitment and it appears to be going down for some time now.

On a more serious note, are you able to make similar graphs for a longer timescale, spanning at least a full year? It would perhaps show the seasonal trends some people expect.

Quite interesting.
Last year there also was a downward trend and though this year's trend is a bit steeper, the difference isn't that great. Last year there was a peak in April and this year in January. Other than that the graphs are essentially the same.
GD on the other hand has a pretty constant rate of posts throughout both periods (a slight down slope), only this year the rate is only half that of last year (partially caused by the Apocrypha peak in posts). Compared to that, MD has been doing great lately.

Probably because there is something new coming in the patch rather then just some eye candy or some simple updates to old-outdated systems. I mean they are added an entire new industrial aspect to the game, a lot of people are probably prepping for the rappage of POS Fuels.

I bolded the part about Apoc. IIRC, didn't it come out in March last year? That would explain the peak in April with the decline after that as all the "OMG HALP!! I'M STUCK IN A WH WITH NO PROBES" threads started tapering off.

Excellent graphs, Chribba.
If the decline in posts may be tied to a decline in active, unique players for Eve (as opposed to active accounts), when will this begin to impact things like the Character market?
Have a look at the Character Bazaar forum -- so many [WTS] go unsold because they don't meet some 200-300 isk/sp requirement the seller desires. It seems like the true market for selling character is at a much lower price point than that. Many more sell orders than buy orders right now, if you will; it's just that people sometimes feel okay about unsuccessful sell orders (and keep paying that subscription for a character they'd prefer to sell).
I think there are an incredible amount of characters just rotting on accounts, unused.

I'll add two more possibilities:
-> The added checking on forum logins from additional IP addresses. This has turned my forum following at work to read-only (or using IE when I'm desperate - for some reason the work proxy causes a forum lockout when using Firefox ).
-> Two market discussion channels in-game, both of them used as an extension of the forum (though they've also been nearly dead during the times I've logged in recently).
I don't mind the quiet right now, its given me a chance (and time) to look through other subforums.

1) You've got to love MD. First page of this thread there are already graphs.
2) My guess is that it's all because of Tyranis. This is one of if not the most significant expansions with regards to trading. Every major change is going to have a huge effect on the market. Also, I think most of the active posters that were willing to speculate about it's effects already have, and right now we are all sitting and waiting, or, more precisely, furiously clicking buttons in eve trying to get our portfolio to look the way we want it before the market goes insane.
Even outside of MD I know a lot of players are taking a week or 2 break before **** hits the fan and gives everyone a muddy shower. If anything I think activity is going to skyrocket this summer.

The character market at the moment is rather interesting. I have noticed the same things as you except people are using a lot of alts to bump up character prices. When they receive an offer a lot of them mock the offer and the buyer never returns as they try to jack up the price.
Characters will continue to sell under the price of monthly plex because of SP inflation. Remaps and the ability to create much better characters than were originally available have diminished the value of characters. That and a lot of people do have spare characters or accounts that they can resub if needed.

The only difference was we didn't have nubs asking stupid questions, people trolling the nubs, and mods moving posts that had no reason to be in MD.
So back in 2007 when MD was hidden and safe from randoms with some spare time to troll, it was a little quieter, but every post was quality and a majority of the regulars participated.
Conclusion... MD really is dieing, dieing a slow and painful death into the depths of idiocy.

If the overall trend for posts is going down slowly I think that's a good thing!
Complainers overall start more posts => Must be less to complain about than last year!
(Also may have something to do with the thousand other methods/forums on google to find Eve info...)
Corp and alliance forums on average have been getting more tech savvy and seeing more utilization than Eve-O forums.

Idiots, like wolves, form packs to bring down prey of greater stature. Why would they do this? Because they can't stand seeing an example of what they can never be. In that regards, idiots are more like jackals.

Idiots, like wolves, form packs to bring down prey of greater stature. Why would they do this? Because they can't stand seeing an example of what they can never be. In that regards, idiots are more like jackals.
ZOMG. Shar I so wish you could do the above in an impersonation of Richard Attenborough...

Yep its our fault for not breaking the downward trend. And WMD's, and global warming.
The last thread was open for 10 days and you don't feel you had sufficient time to post enough about how much we suck? I love you Leneerra.

The thread was open for 10 days and you didn't respond to the questions that you said you were going to. You're turning into ray.

Forums are quieter because FINALS are this week. In addition eve's moodscape is so dark it feels insane to play it while the sun is shinning + MD is full of self serving Ass Holes.

I'm sure those FINALS apply to a very small subset of the forum population, given the fact that they only apply to a specific location and age group.
On a sidenote, I'd appreciate it if the EBANK whiners and lackeys would keep the discussion regarding EBANK where it belongs: in fringe threads. Crapping on the one decent active thread in MD won't do anyone any good.

It was freezing wet and cold over the weekend and yesterday and as far back as I can remember. But it was 70 today with mild wind. I thought to myself, who cares about money, especially imaginary money, there is reality, birds, children, women, love, imagination and action and real life to live to be in! Frolic!!!!
College students I am sure make up a significant proportion of our playerbase - this includes graduate students and probably some professors. Also, the RL markets have been going to hell and back (they love the back part). Support staff at colleges, like myself, are crazy busy and burnt out, eve does not always provide relief from that.
And every post seems to be filled with people asking Akita to say whether or not they're right.
But the sun! The sun is big. And the Finals are bigger than I think you are considering.
How about we come up with a more central trade hub than jita and syndicate it up. Like dubai only not stupid.

What about a rolling 14 day average of posts starting a year before the introduction of the EVElopedia?
