ItÆs a typical night in new Eden, running a level 4 with one of my corpies in Auvergne. Things are going well until a ninja appears on the overview. ItÆs MarvanJeni, my sworn enemy. I popped his probe a few months ago for stealing my loot. He came back in a Typhoon and destroyed my precious Domi; to add insult to injury he did it after I paid his ransom demand, 50 mil. I added him to my address book and figured IÆd settle the score some day.
Things are different now. WeÆve been running level 4Æs for a while and a single ship loss isnÆt going to break the bank. But still, I normally pvp in t2 frigates. So what IÆm contemplating is a risky venture. Marvan starts salvaging. Ok letÆs see where this goes. Target him. Is he going to take the loot again? I discuss options with Veil Wolf (my corpie.)
Van Dunsky: ôIf we shoot him heÆs going to come back in a newt fitted Typhoon. We wonÆt be finishing this mission tonight.ö
Veil Wolf: ôHe is your enemy rightà letÆs do itö
He takes the loot. I set Hobgoblin IIÆs on him but he gets away. Damn! Wolf sends alt to station. Yup. HeÆs in a Typhoon.
Veil: ô Were mission fit. Basically useless. CanÆt even pointö Van: ôShould I dock and fit a Mega real quick? HeÆs going to come back to the mission to keep his aggression timer going.ö Veil: ôok alt is getting the Abbadonö
A short time later I undock in a brand new Mega. Jump into Auvergne and warp to station. Marvan is still there and still red as predicted. I MWD into a nice orbit, turn on my disruptor, and let loose with my drones and blasters. Veil fires with the AbbadonÆs wonderfully colored lasers. MarvinÆs shields disappear real fast. I donÆt know much about the Typhoon, so IÆm thinking ôawesome. HeÆs going down.ö But wait! His armor is holding, mines going to ****. What the hell was I thinking not fitting a tank? Almost in hull. I try to run. Nope! HeÆs faster than me. I canÆt get out of range. ****!
Van: ôVeil get out of here IÆm about to pop.ö
My shiny 15-minute-old mega goes up and smoke and flames. I warp away with my tail between my legs. A short conversation follows. This Typhoon seems to be a tough nut to crack. A bit of research and we find a popular Typhoon fit. Excellent. Seems to be exactly what Marvan is flying. Veil decides to build an ECM Scorp while I put together a new mega, properly tanked this time. We also decide that the Abbadon is fitting a neut.
So we go back and sure enough he is still aggressed. Excellent! We leave the Scorp at a nearby planet and go in with the mega and the Abbadon again. This fight starts pretty much the same as the first one, but my armor isnÆt disappearing nearly as fast. Then Veil brings in the scorp and starts cycling his ECM Mods. IÆm just entering hull when Marvans lock finally breaks so I continue to take out his Ogre IIÆs with mine while the Abbadon works away at him. Just when it looks like we have him, he warps out. DAMN! WasnÆt paying attention and let him get out of disruptor range. Ok. Dock up and repair. Swap out the disruptor for a scram to shut off that damn MWD of his. Marvan comes back and docks as well. Repairing his ship for round 3 no doubt.
Round Three: Marvan undocks first and goes straight for the Scorpion. Smart move he knows he canÆt do **** once heÆs jammed. I come out shortly behind to see his ECM Drones chasing down the Scorp. All I have is a set of HeavyÆs theyÆll never catch those ECM drones in time. I turn on the MWD, Lock and approach. I set My Ogre IIÆs on his ECMs, scramble the bastard, and Start laying into him with Navy Antimatter from my blasters.
Van ôGet the scorp outö Veil ô I canÆt IÆm scrammedö Van ô****! Target jam him.ö Veil ô IÆm trying but those damn drones are target jamming meö

I have him securely pointed now but itÆs too late for the Scorpion, she explodes in a fiery blaze. DAMN! That is a kick in the nuts. But thereÆs good news. Marvans almost in hull and thereÆs no way he can get away. A short time later he is sitting in his pod. Suddenly the lost Mega matters little to me. The feeling of revenge, the oh so sweet satisfaction, or maybe just the thrill of the kill seems to negate any losses incurred. I scoop up the 20 or so mil in loot from his wreck, and we dock up.
Good fights are exchanged. He compliments us on a good job adapting. And asks for a rematch. Not tonight is the only reply given. ItÆs time to log and head off to bed. It took the loss of 2 ships and we used 3 characters. But we got our first BS kill and our first Kill flying BSÆs. And at least in my mind, settled an old score.

That's excellent!
As an alumnus of Suddenly Ninjas, I have bored with the simple trick of baiting mission runners, and I have the highest respect for those who can pull off the far more satisfying trick of running missions to bait ninjas. I can also appreciate the satisfaction of destroying someone who killed you first.
I am still looking for a chance to kill the first guy who killed me.
My only suggestion would be, you should have baited him in the mission space instead of at the station. In this case he fought on, presumably thinking he could win, but normally if you have somebody outgunned he'll simply dock up. In your deadspace, if you could tackle him he'd be trapped.

LOL After +300 loses I still keep a special place in my heart and address book for the 1st person who ganked me. I can't even remember which character he ganked, but I rememeber him and will have my revenge one day! Damn pirate that logs in for maybe 15 minutes a day to gank and run.

Negates any loses...he really said that didn't he?!
I think we could have done with 1 or 2 fewer lost Battleships myself! But at any rate, we got what we went for. Now, back to work in High Sec, we need isk for more ships! lol
Truthfully though, that's a fairly accurate re-telling of the engagement, except for the part where the Phoon had ECCM fitted too...that was a bit of a surprise to my Scorpion. But seeing as my EWAR skills are at 1 across the board, that was a pretty predictable result lol

So what I gathered from that wall of text you call a story:
- You are like about a year and a half old char, but fly level 4 missions in multiple people - Your battleship fleet got terribly wtfowned by a single guy on multiple occasions - You can't spell "neut" - For some uncertain reason, your group loves failfit battleships and feels proud about it - And you eventually killed a cheap Typhoon, after he did you like, over 9000 ISK of damage
Remind me, what was your story about again?

Yes I realize I said newt in there at least once. I'm just going to blame the spell checker on that one.
I figured you wouldn't remember me Marvan. But I've been watching you log in and out for a while now. We considered trying to hunt you down when you had the bounty on your pod. 50 mil I think it was. But as you know our pvp skills need some work. I'm sure we will have a rematch again, we definitely learned a lot and I have to say you took it a lot better than I did when you got me a few months ago.
To everyone else. Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you enjoyed the read. I've been reading C&P for a while now and this is my first time posting.

Edited by: Slimy Worm on 14/05/2010 17:09:08 Saying someone dishonored a ransom is a pretty strong accusation. Are you absolutely sure that he tried to let you go, but you didn't align out in time? Or perhaps you got scrambled my mission rats, or didn't pay him till after he'd fired his last volley of torps.
Also, on the killmail, a pod was warp scramming Marvan so he got the Scorpion. :D

Good story. Props to the ninja who actually fought against a fleet of 3 battleships and gotten two kills.

It's about time mission runners start fighting back...
Even though, in my opinion, that ninja came out on top yet again (2 vs 1 no less), I commend you on your effort. Ninjas need people to keep them on their toes.
And it was probably more fun than finishing up that level 4 anyway, right?

Admittedly, yes, Marvin still came out on top. 2 Battleships to his one lost. The 4 Battle engagement went like this (Vans memory is a little fuzzy, he forgets things after 10 seconds). We got the Probe in the first one, but that was my final blow. Lost the hastily fit Mega in the second, he managed to warp away in the third, and then the lost Scorpion and finally the downfall of that Phoon was the 4th.
We didn't walk away from the conflict thinking we'd won. We learned a few valuable lessons about battleship combat, which for us is a plus since we normally only PvP in T2 Frigs. Looking at records, well, we have a long way to go before we're considered any kind of threat really lol. This is more about just not giving up on the idea that we wanted that kill. Marvin was excellent, he changed his tactic to everything we threw at him. It was a good fight on both sides I think. Marvin had the advantage of skillpoints and experience in BS combat, we had numbers on our side. I don't think, even totalled up between all three characters that we even come close to the skill points Marvin has.
We're not even really carebears either...we run missions because we need the isk, and we've found it's really the optimal way for us to make it to fund our expeditions into low/null sec. Reality is, we want to be out in null-sec doing other things, but financially, we need to stay home in empire space for isk reasons.
It was a great fight, a great night. We had fun on both sides of the battle, I think, and Van got a chance at a little payback for a lost Domi. All around, a great time in New Eden!

Sigh. No. He was playing with you. You trying to make it sound like you were in a dramatic hardcore fight won't change the fact that there was no fight at all. This Marvin guy alone flagged to your whole corp while you were having multiple battleships in the system, he was repeatedly solo attacking you without any RR backup, even after he had like thousand of opportunities to disengage, dock, or get himself RR after he killed you twice, he simply let you blow the phoon, as he probably felt too sorry for you.
But behold, your party then writes an epic 10-page story about a fight that in fact is nothing but a big laugh in your face. Seriously, I had to check my browser twice to see if i'm still in C&P, or accidentally got redirected to a WoW forum.

Edited by: Space Pinata on 14/05/2010 23:49:56 ITT: We troll people with the balls to post something other than "So like, I got an epic win against a vastly undermatched opponent."
And yes, that is roughly every "great win" thread.
Sure, I've killed a battleship in a Taranis before, but it's less to do with me being an AMAZING taranis pilot, and more to do with me finding a complete tool of a battleship pilot to shoot.
So.
Yes, they failed to come out ahead. But they had a good time of it, got a kill, and provided something entertaining to read for once.
You can only lose in EVE if you want to. No matter how many ships you lose, it's morale that makes or breaks a corp; it's just killing some people that they can have fun.
As a hint: Not everyones ego is so tied to internet spaceships that they beat themselves for not being the best internet spaceship flyer. I know your tear addiction is strong but is it really fun if you have to pretend someone is upset? |

I am very sure he dishonored the ransom. That was the main reason I wanted to get him back. He had plenty of time after i paid him if he wanted to let me go. A lot of smack talk followed. But I'm not here to cry about that it's all part of the game. I'm sure if Marvan could remember he would openly admit it.

I try to maximize the isk and tears i get from mission runners. I figure they'll learn their lesson the first time and never pay ransom again.Yeah i did dishonor the ransom. I blew up his ship right after he gave me the ransom monies. I dont remember if i talked a lot of smack the first time i killed you Van, or you talked smack but regardless i was happy i got some isk and a km for my troubles. Yea you got some good tears out of me the first time. I learned a few lessons. Don't pay ransoms, and insure your ship. The smack was mutual. You insulted my fail corp(JDI), which i had just joined, because there were 3 members in local and none of them would help. But as PO'd as I was then. I can certainly respect the fact that you still fought us 3 vs 1 on that last encounter.
