I think, Therefore I am It's an old saying that has passed the lips of many from before the EvE Gate closed and has transcended into our current time. It basically means that since we have an existance, since we think and feel and communicate we exist...does that mean that we have souls as well? I mean rogue drones, AI who have become sentient, do they have souls...because they can think can they not? The can reason, they "feel"...although it is nothing more than data..but isnt everything just data that streams into our minds?
I'm sure as capsuleers, at some point in time every one of us has come to wonder exactly what we are.
Are we trully immortal, our souls bouncing from body to body as we die or jump?
I've been one of the lucky few that still has his true body and jumped into a clone as soon as he could in order to preserve my "self". The reason for this was, well, I like the scars I bare because they make me feel more "human" and remind me of the struggles I endured before becoming a capsuleer...these bodies do not have these scars...my hair isn't even my hair anymore...it belongs to another...another me?
So is my true soul in the original body? Does the darkness and fire that appear in my closed eyes as I die being caused because my soul is being taken to hell every time my cloned body dies?
Information, memories, dna...our brains...these things make a human body and a human mind...But what makes a person? Are our souls still intact...are we really us or are we copies? Does our original soul yell out in the night every time we die and are cloned as it is copied?
What are we...we the immortals who have dominion of the stars? Are we still human? Are we mere copies of what was once human? Do we still have souls?
As capsuleers we can never trully die...we have become as cold and calculating as those rogue drones. We kill each other mercilessly and many relish in the darkness it causes in the mind...the darkness that seems to radiated and consume all rational thought. Are we beasts...has being cloned stripped us of rationality and left us with our darker base insticts to fight and dominate?
Life is something we can never trully experience...that is something I know, because to experience true life we need to trully die and honestly feel. So far only one capsuleer has done such a thing and he ended it all by doing something great and showing that maybe he had found his soul in his last moments, or maybe it was just another cold calculating decision made by a capsuleer.
What are we?

To answer your question succinctly, we are merciless demigods who roam the stars in search of...whatever we are in search of.
As for the soul - humans have always feared death because they can't understand it and they can't conquer it. The notion of the soul allowed for some hope that a part of the self would persist beyond that shadowy curtain. It was a form of immortality cherished by an all too mortal species.
Whether we capsuleers still possess souls is a matter I will leave to the philosophers and the fanatics. However, a better question might be "What would we need them for"? As you have already pointed out, we cannot die, unless we choose to. If the soul was humanity's crude attempt at preserving the self beyond death, then we, with our perfect clones and myriad lives, have little or no need of them.
In answer to your other question: Are we still human?
On the main, genetically speaking, we are still human. But that's like saying a human is a primate. We have moved beyond in a technological evolution that has split us off from the main. --Vel

I've thought about this as well. and the conclusion I've come up to is: we are who we want to be. isn't that the very essence of humanity? to make a choice? that is why we must not forget that in fact the soul of humanity will be present as long as we need and want to...
...or you could just ignore it and settle with the fact that is just an **** game...

My clan believes spirit or soul is our personal part of the spirit of our kin, stored in the unity of flesh and mind.
This unity is forever lost when one is emergency cloned or clone jumps. After that what remains is a copy with the belief it is the original.
The spiritual part of kinship cannot survive serialization to data. The physical part of the kinship is lost when one moves to borrowed flesh. And even if both persisted, separating one from another breaks the whole.
Does soullessness make somebody a monster? Not necessarily. Ethics and morals are also a concious choice. Being able to do evil does not make such deeds a necessity, just like being able to do good does not force one to goodness.

Your answers are easliy found in Mother Church and the Theology Coucil rather than among the heathens of the capsuleer community.
Please report to to your nearest Theology Council Temple as soon as possible and enroll yourself in a re-education program. I'm sure you will find that the occasional crisis of faith is easily expunged after their corrections are put into place.
Faith is like the coherent light of a laser. Occasionally, you need to see the light through a new lens.

To be honest with you...I don't know. In a sense we are immortal...I guess, I myself am the "first copy" of the original Syn. Unfortunatly she died without a download to her capsule, so I activated with just a basic personality download (could have been worse...I could have suffered mindlock). What I'm getting at is...I'm Who I was, but still an individual...since I'm making my own way through the universe without the benifit of "her" memories. Although...I do have odd dreams that seem to be memories, but its hard to tell if they are real or just dreams.
...if there is a "god", he is laughing at us.
...if there is a "god", he has a sick sense of humor. |

Hmmm, those are som good points... I wonder if it would be possible to wake all the clones at once...what do you think would happen?
Heh, if such a thing were to occur, what would you say to your other "self"? ------------------- To bring equality to the world, if your character is female then you will now have a female corpse when podkilled.. What will CCP think of next? |
