My corporation may soon have an opportunity to set up a presence in null sec. We want to build an outpost. It turns out that the capabilities of an Amarr outpost best fit our needs. But this leaves me with a large concern: One of the "construction materials" needed is slaves. I find this unacceptable, but I'm not the CEO. Is there any way to make one of these outposts with free workers? I'm looking for constructive ideas that will not cause a rift in my corporation.

As I understand it, the slaves are required as they are skilled individuals who have laboured aboard Ammarian Instalations. Hence, they have the technical skills to properly construct a Outpost of Ammarian desighn. If we think about it, a slave is a person who is not paid and can be bought.
Should their status as a slave concern you, can you not buy their freedom, commission them to work for you in the construction of the outpost and then pay them when they are done? Edited by: Joshua Cy on 17/05/2010 23:47:38 Excellent idea. But I have looked through all options on my neocomm and have not found any that let me buy a slave's freedom. How do I do that?

The slaves are not a material component. You simply need to free these slaves at your outpost. |

Edited by: lucifers widow on 18/05/2010 06:18:10 Alas there is no way to build an outpost without slaves, even the alliance Star fraction who is supposed to be anti slavery did it. A slave is a slave until set free there is no getting around that, saying you will set them free after the build does in no way make it change the fact you used slave labour to build you're empire.
Originally by: Kazzzi The slaves are not a material component. You simply need to free these slaves at your outpost.
You are still enslaving them, "freeing" someone after they have served their purpose in space with no security rating on the outpost they have just built for you is no freedoom, give them a choice where is it practical to do so, buy them then set them free but give them a chance to work for you and then anyone looking to be employed by you can be taken out to the build site.

The mindless beasts would undoubtedly -- whether they recognize it or not -- be grateful for your task, which gives them some sort of direction they're otherwise incapable of forming on their own.
It's saddening that such a thing is necessary, but there it is. Use the slaves and set them aside until needed again. But don't set them free, which could be akin to murder, given what emancipated slaves freed by my race have done in the past.

For a long time we have been asking Concord to give capsuleers the ability to officially free slaves.
Until then, capsuleers are left with the usual choice between doing what is right and doing what is profitable.

Why not sell them to someone who has a reputation of being a kind master?
It's not like no one will want them, as someone said they are skilled and know how to work on high-value projects.
Besides, giving them freedom would put them in a rather tough situation, "what to do?".

One option is to buy the slaves, inform them that they are free, and if they choose to accept employment, have them help with construction.
Of course, you'd then be supporting the existing slave market by continuing to create and support demand for human trafficking.
I might suggest that, if your ethics are up to it, considering an alternate outpost design.

Edited by: Vincent Athena on 24/05/2010 18:23:10 That is my intent. Also in the outpost description, include "Former slaves, now free, built and run this outpost".
Our CEO has demanded an Amarr outpost due to its 20 manufacturing slots. He wants to be a major supplier in the area. It was a big argument to just put the above statement in the outpost description, he just did not see why it was important to me. And he's Gallente!
But my original question remains: Other than just telling the slaves "You are free! Do what you want. Would you like a job?" is there anything I do with my NeoCom to set the slaves I buy free?

Amarrian Nationalists? Telling lies on the Summit? Surely not, are you a proxy for Archbishop by any chance?
We built a Matari Service outpost that does not require slaves as part of its building components or construction team. Next time try doing the smallest amount of research before opening your ignorant trap like the boneless nobody you represent.
