Why is there no way to upgrade the client? Neither the full build, nor patches will upgrade my Mac client to the Tryannis expansion. What gives?

Originally by: Yukanojo Edited by: Yukanojo on 26/05/2010 10:41:27 What's the SOP with patching these expansions? Is there an autoupdater in the client when we log in or do we have some way of downloading an offline patch file?
Reason I'm asking is I am in lovely Iraq and the internet connection is quite slow. (Fast enough to play, but any large files take forever to download.) Since I'm the most computer savvy soldier here, I have been elected by the other Eve players here to "figure it out". I'd prefer to download the update content once, to save time and bandwidth and get the guys here playing sooner.
Should I just monitor this link and wait for it to go live?

it shoul just be automatic

I am running missions for isk so that I can sustain myself as far as buying PvP ships goes. CCP somehow decided that it would be a good idea to lower the minerals gotten from reprocessing the majority of loot. I'm not worried about this because I sell minerals, I've not done that at all. I'm worried about this because lowered supply of minerals will increase their cost, and as a result ship prices will increase as well. So now I have to run more missions (in which I'll make slightly less isk in) for the same thing.
How the **** is everyone so happy about this expansion? Planetary interaction is code-name for "Since Dust 514 is going to come out, lets help the rich get richer!" If it doesn't lower some cost for me, I'll be utterly displeased.
Although I say this, EVE is still undoubtedly my favorite game, but at the same time, I don't understand how CCP could ever have decided that missions needed a nerf. How about that survey they sent out about mission-running some months back? Did they not remember the bit about how tedious running missions is? They obviously don't give a **** about what th players think?
P.S.: When we get CCP pathnotes, please tell us exactly how things are changing rather than just a general idea. (ex. "Drone Compound volume is being decreased" vs "Drone Compound volume is being decreased by 25%" It's not too much to ask is it?
Talk to all the miners who have had their professions completely trivialized. Now put some more thought into it. Mineral prices go up, people start mining more, prices go back down. It's the market, it fluctuates...you've played this game before right? :)
Quit whining; at least wait to see what happens first.
That's probably true that miners will mine more and ship prices will go back down in time, but at the same time, that doesn't stop me from making extra money does it? Like I said, EVE will always be my favorite game, but at the same time, I think I have the right to be bothered by a huge expansion making it more difficult for me to make money, considering I already put so much time into missions... Do you really think that this is a necessary change in any case? I'm not sure exactly how many miners there are around, but I'm going to go with the term "a lot". (even relatively speaking by profession) Taking isk out of the hands of mission runners and putting it in the hand of miners is not something that I appreciate to say the least. I'm on the wrong end of it after all, and so - I express my discontent.
I consider it venting btw, not whining, although for the rest of you in your "Awesome Tyrannis bubble", I understand that it could be perceived that way...
That's how balancing works. The one party gains the another one loeses. And this change makes sense. Miners should be the ones who get the minerals, not the mission runners.
I am wondering what CCP got from Dell for implementing this blinky lights freatures. Some kids with XPS laptops will maybe appreciate this feature but 95% of the community will not. I was tempted to buy a Dell XPS laptop, but these blinky light were the main argument for me not to buy it. Since it looks immature and I need to use my laptop for presentations from time to time.

I dont see anything in this expansion to recommend it to be honest and a lot of things are just wrong like taking away Widescreen support.
Planets well yeah so they are the new moons and there will be ascramble by those with enough isk to take all the best ones as quick as possible. Whilst its nice to have a totaly player driven economy I am not impressed.
It would have been nicer to fix all the things wrong in the game
Like the fact that CCP closes your client when your subscription ends without any warning and then wont reimburse any losses they caused
Like the fact that POS cant be set to allow only players with high enough standings within the shields
Like continued insurance payouts for ships killed by concord
And dont even get me started on LAG fleet fights are a joke when each side can field 600+ players with 10 titans apiece and dozens of supercarriers. Why are we still seeing modules take over 30 seconds to activate and fail to de activate? This is far more important than a new feature. Fix what is broken before you move on to something new please.

I'm thinking of getting a blinky light wireless keyboard, if I can find one. It would be good if there was a blinky light usb attachment.

"macro-mining" isn't necessarily afk-mining. If you're automated any process of mining with third-party software then you are macro-mining. The fact that you are present at your keyboard to reply to messages doesn't change that.

Don't get me wrong, competing with 40,000 others simultaneously fighting for the same download is quite the giggle but let's stagger it out a bit if we can, eh?
thats a good idea so ccp wont do it lol
Bad idea - everyone would download and patch the client before QA is finished successful and its clear that it wont be rolled back again.
So what you're saying is they're trying to install alpha software on unstable hardware as we type, right?
QA is to assure there will be no rollbacks neccessary at all. If they have no clue, they failed in advance.
And yes, it is possible to install different versions side by side, even automatically without user interaction required. It's just a matter of programmers being fit enough to do so and storage space.
http://www.eveonline.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=3909
lacks information about client upgrade procedures, space requirements for the update, etc.
Simply put: Downtime with yet another fail in terms of taking time to properly inform paying customers.
Tyrannis "being up" does not imply we will be able to log in soon after, does it? How much time shall we expect for our clients to get upgraded? Three weeks from now? Four? Maybe never if we choose to.

To the soldiers in Iraq:
Watch the news page, CCP sometimes put up news item saying that the patch is ready to be downloaded (this sometimes happens a few hours before the server is due to come back up). Otherwise in 5 or 6 hours when the server starts up head over to the patch page and download the offline patcher from there.
To the Mission runner complaining about miners getting a boost:
Sure we miners are getting a boost with the reduction of minerals from loot, the only problem is that the roid belts in empire are not getting any boosts, so only the nullsec mining ops are getting the boosts :(.
I run operations for new players to experience group mining and we had a brand new player join in the op at the weekend, he was asking a load of questions and not fully mining (using his rookie ship instead of the burst I gave him) all the time he was quite happy to earn over 30 mil in his first few hours mining, Sure we stripped a few belts in the empire system we were in, but those belts are always getting killed fast, and the take is not as high as it was a month ago, in a couple of weeks the systems I normally mine in will not be profitable anymore, so I'll have to pack up and find a new site that's not been touch, which means a couple of weeks of no mining and no income, while mission runners can just run missions all day for the same agent that never dries up...

im a mission runner and im all for this nerf of minerals from loot, i find that a full ship of loot once reprocessed into minerals no longer fits in my cargobay....this alone is proof of the need of a nerf. but please ccp make some more missions with more interesting developments in them and less annoying ones where you get jammed to 0 range and your drones decide not to attack anyone......
drones are suppost to make up for lack of fof missiles with turret-weapon races are they not? maybe an.... attack nearest hostile command for drones? ....or maybe not. whatever.

As much as i hate macros, if CCP were to actually do something about macros, the market in EVE would crash beyond recognition. As far as im concerned they all go to a 0.0 system with no station to run to. -=+>xXx<+=-

You guys know that if you add up all the downtime everyday and the other times eve is down like now and other crashes ccp would owe us around 3 weeks of game time.......
I wonder what their response would be if we petitioned for a credit on our yearly subscription?

So after reading the patch notes, the only thing I am happy for is "Fixed a problem where dragging charges onto the fitting screen only distributed enough charge for one weapon." Other than that, to me this expansion will be a waste of internet bandwidth.
