Namely how well the guns respectively track given targets like cruisers etc.
Now this would probably screw a few of them up but how about a slight change (just an idea I would like to run with and the possible implications of such a change) thus:
With such ships as the Vargur which use guns etc instead of target painters as the bonus why not Gun resolution. (EDIT: I was thinking this way you could probably get a betetr tank and you would be making the ships in this case that much better than the faction ships and actually worth the roles they have been given at the prices offered materials wise).
I.e. The battleship guns have 400 sig resolution (not sig radius) and hence are fantastic at hitting such things like battleships at any range to the maximum radial velocity.
So. For say every level of ship skill (whichever affects it) you get 7.5% reduction in sig resolution then you will have a total 37.5% better signature resolution at lvl 5.
What does this mean.
Well it means on close range ships (AC vargur and Neutron Kronos) you will have a better chance to hit things that are smaller than a BS, cruisers etc will be easieer. Like rails for example could finally be used with antimatter to hit things (with a Kronos) at around 10k with little trouble finally. I.e. Boost to Rails, but not a damage increase.
Least, not a direct damage increase.
This I know would probably screw a lot of the stastics around but I thought I would throw it out there.
OFC this also means that of the guns get the bonus then missiles should get the same kind of binus, explosion radius for example... ----------------------------

What does this mean for cruisers?
Well, with cruisers this means that although they *only* have 125 m sig radius (to whatever size they get to) they will be easier hit and for more damage granted, however with this reduction you will sill have most guns at around 300m (out of rear end numbers I admit) so you get still less damage as such, but will be easier to hit.

Gun resolution bonusses aren't seen elsewhere in the game, so maybe that would be a bit out of line with current mechanics. Also, it's hardly a role specific bonus: tractors are great for what are clearly pve powerboats because it let's you salvage faster, but gun resolution would be big boost on any combat ship.
It would be less disruptive to fit another mid slot, also, hasn't the varg got a completely beastly tank already?

It means the exact same thing as an increase in tracking, because of how the turret mechanics work. A 37.5% reduction in sig resolution is identical, in all aspects, to a 60% increase in tracking.
Whether or not this is a good thing is up for debate, but at least if you present it as a 12% tracking increase per level it will be easier for people (quite possible including yourself) to understand what you're proposing.
