Edited by: Jade Kitana on 23/05/2010 16:02:41 With the amount of time players spend hanging around stars, I find it hard to believe that CCP even dared to touch them. I mean, come on.
I agree though, the pre-Trinity graphics were soo much better. I'll go once step further. They should take them back to pre-beta. Everyone knows thats when the first lag monster was introduced.
If they do that, they will even take care of global warming I bet. No more super-Mobos soaking up all that juice.
I'm cancelling all my 1337 accounts if you don't fix this.

How about a sun that you really cannot fly to because of heat or would need heat deflection mods to get closer to? And the closer you get to a sun, the harder you are to scan out but cannot cloak because of the particles.
And how about solar flares that occasionally take out a ship?
Let's make the suns more interactive. We are getting PI, why not SI? We have the Zephyr that uses solar sails, and Minnie ships have what looks like solar panels (guess you can get away with that using projectiles ). Different suns with different effects, like WH space, on sensors, ships, etc. Suns become more of a tactical entity to use or use against. Solar events to disrupt cloaks, cynos, sensors, probes.... whatever.
It would jazz things up a bit.

What about the star's flare effects? Does it still light up most of screen even at 100 AU away? If not, this change is welcome. ____________ I'd make a forum signature that didn't suck, but I'm restricted by a character limit that does. |

Yeah.. Maybe some sort of lampshade for the Sun. Maybe one of the perks for SOV? A giant lampshade will make for a much cooler looking system. Lets make it happen folks.

In mineral oil lasers worth s*** because they'd be dissipated then absorbed in few dozen meters at best.

Maybe you guys should log into Singularity and actually look at a large sample of suns instead of basing your opinions off of FOUR screens. Some stars DO look really bad, but some look pretty good with the new effects. They just have to do a little tweaking to make them all look good. The only problem I see if that the flare your ship occludes is only at the very center of the star, so it looks weird if the star isn't a point on the horizon. ==================== ~/~ Sultan of Buruni |

i dont know how the "cameradrone" (tm) works but i find it hard to belive it polarizes the sun and the sun only the fact is that when we warp to the sun we shouldnt see nothing at all, maby the slight shadow of our ship bot not even that cuz light can act as waves enveloping the ship. without polarisation your wehole 360¦ view would be white, WITH polarisation you would be able to view the sun and its flairs but everything else would be black
so thats for the RL sun arguments in this thread
however as my comment on the new sun grp. i WOULD like it if the poly-edges were fixed and flares added instead of the "gravitational disortion"
A camera drone is a tiny little space vehicle that flies at massive speed and instantly responds to the pod pilots thoughts and beams its data straight into the users mind, somehow I doubt adding a polarising filter is much of a problem for it.

No common sense in these threads please.
You are not allowed to bring up that fact that this still a work in progress, or that screenies rarely look as good as ingame, or that some of the stars actually look pretty good on Sisi.
Such nonsense is not allowed.

Especially since anything on Sisi should be a RC for the upcoming patch, that was supposed to go live to TQlast week. They're definitely only in early stages of work here, they would never push something half baked to live

more the fact that those parts are based solidly in opinion (and even then you have to qualify your own statement with "some") and there would be no point to start a "nuh uhh, uhh huh" match with you over it.
So I ignored the fluff and got right down to the meat, HTH.

Well, everything about this thread is opinion including the OP. Even your statement about "half-baked" is opinion. Nearly all software companies are forced to release something not fully completed, then update it in later releases. That is a fact of the business.
What I see in this thread is that some just don't like change. They can't handle things they have been familar with being different. Eve is, by design, a dynamic changing game. What it is now barely resembles what it was when it was releaesd. What it will be in 5 years probably won't resemble what it is today. Sometimes you will like the change, sometimes you won't. But, I'm sure this isn't the last time these effects will be changed. Maybe next time you will like them better. These effects may change another 20 times in the years to come. Who knows.
Point being, these changes are rather minor in the overall scope of things. These changes are most likely required due to changing hardware norms. Eve is evolving as the hardware we use on our computers evolve. Get used to it, Eve will most likely change a lot in the future, and prepare yourself, you may not like it. Pleasing everyone is impossible.
To be truthful, I don't like some of the new effects that have come about in the last couple years either. But, I take it for what it is. A snapshot in time of what Eve is. Next year it will be different, and I may even like it better then. But I very much appreciate the hard work the Devs put into this game. So I am willing to cut them some slack and look to the future of this game that is Eve Online.

There's a thread in Assembly Hall just aching for you to read it: [BRACKET] Urging CCP to work on current issues next expansion
The main thrust of the argument is that CCP releases stuff that is not fully completed, then never updates it in later releases. This is a fact of the EVE Online business, which sets CCP apart from those mythical "release it broken, fix it later" companies that you think are the norm.

Edited by: Ti''anla on 24/05/2010 12:11:12 Honestly, I really like it o.O It's a step closer to how a star would 'really' look if viewed through a filter that'd keep it from blinding every eye and sensor got pointed at it, rather than a globulous mass of random bloom effects, it's (in my opinion) a LOT prettier for the same reason, and it's added some nice little speculars when viewed from anywhere not immediately beside the star.
While I miss desperately the old contrails and the idle wormhole animations that stargates had for a brief while after Trinity, this is one effect tweak I really like.

The suns always been a giant annoyance.
We shouldnt have to be zooming out and rotating the camera to point away from the sun becuase a big ball of white glaring out the middle of our screen gets annoying whilst trying to pvp
How would ccp like it, if whilst they were trying to code some not needed upgrade, i came and shined a pencil torch in their left eye.
This is supposed to be the future, wtb - sun dampening module.
I actauly wear sunglasses whilst playing eve - allright i wear sunglasses in all games coz im cool as you like, but it helps with the suns in eve.
You can keep your rubbish cyno effect, just get that sun out of my face.
