After my motherboard failed and I started logging into EVE with a netbook that exactly meets the minimum system requirements, I have been suffering through the most intense lag imaginable. I have another motherboard on the way, but until then I am stuck sitting in station with lag more intense than one thousand pre-patch Jitas. This has given me a great idea that I am sure many people have had before me, the lite client.
EVE needs a client that has all of the pretty, amazing features removed, something you can log on with on a pathetic machine and chat, manage market orders, or do anything else that doesn't require you to undock. I would even be happy if there was no option to undock. I'm sure many people with computers that aren't amazing will agree.
Discuss, flame, do whatever, I just wanted to bring this idea to the floor in hopes that it happens.

I'm all for a cell phone app or something strictly for checking orders and updating skills, something along those lines
support it 1000%

I completely agree. Having a way to log into EVE to modify skills, orders, etc without having to use the EVE client would expand the EVE experience an unbelievable amount. Hell, just create the ability to access it through the full API and I'll write the client myself, though I'm sure the authors of EVEMON would quickly update their program to do it.

Well done, you just cost 3/4's of CCP's employees their jobs :P
Though someone at CCP did say that their long term goals for Evegate are to blur the boundaries of internet and game so that a lot of stuff can be done from the browser. There's a little while to go for this yet I think.
Edit: Don't count on skill change abilities though.

I think he meant have 2 versions. I would not mind a light version to use on my laptop, but I would definitely use the pretty version on my desktop.
Changing skills online and check orders with EVEgate? ooooohhh.... /drool

Yeah, I meant a second client (or more customization for the original client to take the system requirements down a few notches). I still want the pretty Eve client! I would never wish for such a thing to be ruined!

Great idea for when you just need to check skills, market orders, etc.. Definately wouldn't put the "heavy weight 3d" eve out of business. It would just allow you to keep 'eve'-ing all day long just like we all want to do :D.
Supported.

CCP scrapped the "lite" version some time ago. Saves developer time. Won't come back.
As for changing skills, checking market orders, chatting with friends: that's what EveGate might provide in the future.

It's already pretty light with everything on minimum, all effects off, and keeping zoom at max distance all he time with no brackets on, kinda lose sense of position unfortunately... but can just about keep up most of the time (gate jumps into hostiles are a problem though). Just turns into a game played by overview only... which I guess is most of the game anyway. If you're lagging while in station, I really hope you don't already have "load station environment" off, otherwise that's really slow :P.
