Or a Caldari banker who begins to help cover the tracks of Amarrian slave labor in Gallente space. Building a corrupt economic empire while his wife slowly dies of a broken heart, his kids abandon him, his partners betray him, and Minmatar agents try to bring him down.

I feel like an EVE movie would be better not directly involving eggers, but the many short lived mortals who make up the galaxy and are affected greatly by our actions. Our story is in the game, and theirs is in the media.
Truely is the Caldari dream, if only the rest of us were so lucky.

Hire James Cameron as a content director Hire The Wachowski Brothers for effects and hire David Lynch or Darren Aronofsky for suspense and creepyness
And give em a budget of 300 million dollar! Thats aprox 120 dollar for each player! So with an additional annual sub fee of 133 dollar and CCP with support of the player base would be ready to roll!!!

That's one angle. Or you could focus on the struggles of the near demi-gods of the realm. Think Dune.

Hell, I'd pay for a ticket. Chances are better though that they'd make a full length BSG 1st due to that show's following and history.
Unfortunately, I don't see that happening in the 1st place, due to that show's following and history (and you pretty much get the whole story and a couple full lengths anyway if you watch the whole series).
Either way, I'd still buy a ticket.

On one condition. CCP does not make it.
Frankly, I would not support diverting FURTHER resources from fixing this game. Let CCP contract it out to Hollywood, like Bungie was going to do with Halo.

Sorry but great game world =/= hollywood gold. Every game that has been turned into a movie has been utter dreck. There's also a good reason that a lot of sci-fi media (games/literature) does not translate well to celluloid. Most audiences do not respond very well to completely alien worlds where they do not recognise the social structures or understand the the fantasy technologies involved, they at least need something from the REAL world to hang onto or you lose them.
Now you probably think you have exceptions to this and are readying your "ah but Star Wars ... ah but Bladerunner" responses, but you'd be wrong. The reason they worked is because they were sci-fi versions of common Hollywood fare. Take Bladerunner for example, it's just a gumshoe in space story when you break it down, Harrison Ford's character could be removed and transplanted straight into "Chinatown" with very little effort.
The kind of movie that most Eve players would want to see made would fail epically because a) they'd want the film to be ABOUT Eve rather than based within it and b) they'd want far too much stuff from the EvE universe included so it would wind up looking like a showcase for the game rather than a workable story.
The only way it would work as a film is if the world of Eve was reduced to the background at a level that would leave most Eve fans quite unsatisfied. I could see it working as TV series since you have so much more leeway for setting up "the Eve world" and having the audience buy into it, but you just don't have that kind of time in a movie. This is why great sci-fi literature such as the Culture novels doesn't get snapped up by Hollywood, it's just a really tough sell the average audience.

I'm thinking of Dead Space. a movie that came out to compliment the game. The movie rocked, the game? Never bother to play it. Graphics looked bad, linear, AvCom. All around not my game. If EvE went dark and EvE like, foul language, Pod pilots screaming as they recloned and relived thier last death. Again. Something says it wont have Wall-E impact or anything but if they went with the game and even incorporated real players in the game from epic battles. My idea of an EvE movie starts with a pilot sitting in a corp office, pulling up corp channels and cussing down a gate camper that popped his 3rd Indy. In come 20 or so corp mates, blow the gate camp and go from there. The path of a corp getting pulled in to a massive null sec Sov war and the way a handfull of characters see it. Main characters would need to be fictional or CCP chars but everyone else could come from the game, player char to player corp. |

I'd love to see movie one day. EVE is so cinematic and rich of stories it's kinda sad not to use such huge potential.
Of course, not movie about the whole EVE because we don't want a documentary I guess. But movie which takes place in the world of EVE, focused on one story, one pilot, could be a blast. Obviously, "Clear skies" style is what I like to think about.

See, you're already wanting to put in too much stuff that non-Eve players just would not give a **** about. The general public doesn't know what terms like "gate camp", "indy" or even "warp scrambled" mean and so they'd require quite a big setup (that would detract from the pace of the movie and make it dull/awkward) or they'd need to be changed to instantly recognisable terms like "ambush" or "industrial ship" that would leave Eve players annoyed. The general public certainly don't care about real players from the game, they haven't played it, to them they are just another weird named character that they have nothing invested in nor do they care to have.
The fact that you want everything but the main characters to come from the game just reinforces my point that Eve players want the kind of movie that will send the General public to sleep. A salable movie needs to have a salable/interesting plot and the machinations of intercorp rivalry complete with name dropping of actual Eve players is NOT IT, in fact it's about the worst and most basic error one could make regarding an Eve movie. If your idea ever made it to the silver screen it would be met with yawns and blank expressions by everyone but the playerbase.
I'll say it again, sci-fi movies that really work have a plot that the audience can recognise, usually from the vast wealth of non-sci-fi movies already made and the sci-fi element is largely stylistic. I'll give another example to demonstrate what I mean. Take the 1st 2 Alien movies. Alien was clearly a horror movie in space, it owes as much to "the Shining", "Rosemary's baby" and "The Exorcist" as it does to "Star Wars". It's a tale of possession much like "the Exorcist" and "rosemary's Baby" and feels very much like "the Shining" in the way it builds tension. The sci-fi element is essentially a backdrop, it creates a mood and allows certain liberties to be taken with the "possession" theme (ie. an alien instead of satan/ghost etc), but at no point does the backdrop overtake the main story of POSSESSION. It's a tried and tested story and a deep seated fear that many people can relate to and as such the public can accept/temporarily believe the the backdrop of sci-fi as long as that is where it remains.
The second Alien movie is again not primarily ABOUT sci-fi, it is a Vietnam pastiche SET IN a sci-fi world. Again the sci-fi back drop allows certain liberties to be taken with the standard Vietnam war movie. The technology is more advanced altho a lot of it looks very much like suped-up USMC gear. Women have a more prominent role in the combat of the story ie. the characters of Vasquez and more importantly Ripley. But it still holds true to the themes and motifs of the standard 'Nam flick. The group of unsuspecting marines sent in to fight a foe they don't understand in an unfamiliar terrain by a group of "higher-ups" who don't give a **** about them, the horrors of war and one soldier's struggle to survive in the face of certain death. Hell it even had the tag line "this time it's war" on the movie poster.
In short, if you want an Eve movie to work you have to forget that you pay Eve and write a story about something else and set it in Eve. Nobody gives a **** real eve players or this corp vs that corp except eve players. My guess is that it would be nearly impossible to make it work without stripping back the Eve universe to the point that Eve players would send death threats to the screenwriter/directer. But hey what do I know, maybe there's a sci-fi version of Amistad in there somewhere, but I'm not holding my breath. _____________________________________________ fsuicgks (this is not gibberish, it is deeply profound

I would rather have a history book of the player history in Eve. (Though if you read through the forums you could probably get it all).
I have only been around since the end of '06, there was so much drama before then and so much since that I have probably missed.

Some of your points have merit. In particular the point you make about the only way an EVE film would get approval is if it were to cater for a wider audience but I have to correct you regarding some of your other points.
Alien was about **** and its sequel; motherhood. The Exorcist was about the mothers difficulty in parenting a teenage girl (why on earth do you think the devil chose a 12 year old girl? You'd think he'd have better options?) and the inherent fear of being replaced in the domicile as the fertile female. Rosemary's Baby was just a bad film, playing out a worn trodden theme of young motherhood and the fears and questions which follow it. "Am I still attractive? What is happening to me? What is this thing inside me growing?", I give it credit for the acting and directing, but not the story. Is not about possession.
I disagree about your last comment; I don't think you would have to strip away any of the essence of EVE back-story/backdrop at all for it still to be a compelling story.
What the characters are doing is more important than what they are saying. In other words, you can get away with lengthy exposition and techno-babble so long as you give the audience some meaningful action scenes every 10-15 minutes.
Even Star Wars had dialogue like:
HAN: It'll take a few moments to get the coordinates from the navi-computer. ----- DODONNA: Only a precise hit will set up a chain reaction. The shaft is ray-shielded, so you'll have to use proton torpedoes. -----
But it was still a pimp movie.
