Some of your points have merit. In particular the point you make about the only way an EVE film would get approval is if it were to cater for a wider audience but I have to correct you regarding some of your other points.
Alien was about **** and its sequel; motherhood. The Exorcist was about the mothers difficulty in parenting a teenage girl (why on earth do you think the devil chose a 12 year old girl? You'd think he'd have better options?) and the inherent fear of being replaced in the domicile as the fertile female. Rosemary's Baby was just a bad film, playing out a worn trodden theme of young motherhood and the fears and questions which follow it. "Am I still attractive? What is happening to me? What is this thing inside me growing?", I give it credit for the acting and directing, but not the story. Is not about possession.
I disagree about your last comment; I don't think you would have to strip away any of the essence of EVE back-story/backdrop at all for it still to be a compelling story.
What the characters are doing is more important than what they are saying. In other words, you can get away with lengthy exposition and techno-babble so long as you give the audience some meaningful action scenes every 10-15 minutes.
Even Star Wars had dialogue like:
HAN: It'll take a few moments to get the coordinates from the navi-computer. ----- DODONNA: Only a precise hit will set up a chain reaction. The shaft is ray-shielded, so you'll have to use proton torpedoes. -----
But it was still a pimp movie.

Using lingo works in plenty of movies. Phaser banks are from a real weapon? They were made main stream. The reason I pointed out any characters that plot lined the movie had to be CCP or fictional is because after watching the movie, you will get the unavoidable collection of people coming to the game looking for those characters. Any lingo used would be familiar. When we played SWG online, we expected light sabers. In a case of Game to movie, keeping it EvE would be critical. They would understand the gate camp. They would know what a Judgement could do. It would be what games thrive on. Affinity and familiarity. |

I envisage abit of a Star Wars "rip-off" but hey if they casted David Walliams as a Gallentean i'd definetly go see it.
Sorry about spelling "on the missus's mac" keybords all weird and shiney. -------------------------------------------

If you do it right, youÆll get a slew of people signing up to EVE and making their character names fit the characters in the Movie. At this moment in time, how many variations are there of Luke Skywalker in this game? The answer is ætoo manyÆ and the success of an EVE Movie would be measured by the amount of variations there shall be of what the lead character of the Movie is in the game inside a six month timescale.
Understanding a gate campàI think it would be in the delivery, you couldnÆt just drop dialogue like that into a movie without making have some transition into æreal worldÆ perspectives. Something akin to:
Character A: We canÆt go that way. Character B: Why? Character A: TheyÆve lit a fire and setup camp on the gate û thatÆs why.
As for keeping it EVEàhmmàI think good dialogue and believable characters will endow any audience with a sense of empathy. Once again, itÆs in the delivery and the dialogue.

Actually the Eve univese could make a very good film setting.
Problem is, it would need the best sci-fi effects you can get to date. There's enough story that can be generated from the game itself.
So would be very expensive to make and because it's not as well know as Star Wars and Star Trek it would have to be made very well, pure quality.

I've thought about this before, and I think it's not possible to "capture" whole of EVE in a movie. There would have to be several, it would be an "epic" storyline, a trilogy at least. Think LOTR and Star Wars length. Something like that.
Personally, I think a good eve-movie would not be about a pod pilot from the start. Start small and build up, character development, introduce characters whose destiny intertwine in a big finale.
Pod pilots are very high up and the total elite of eve, if the story is about a normal person in eve their role should be akin to something that of an untouchable god.
I don't know if the general audience would be interested in a sort of "history of the world of eve" title, think about the old eve introduction movie. That looks like an unpolished diamond to me.

You only need to capture the essence of Eve you don't need to portray everything at once. If done correctly and successfully then you could think of a sequel.
With planning multiple films you run the risk of running out of funds before you complete the story. You only have to look at Jurassic Park 3 for an example of this.
Or you could forget the film and go for a mini series for TV.
