Im re-reading a large part of The Night's Dawn Trilogy by Peter F Hamilton. It's incredibly well written, scarily dark and readers may notice a comparison between the EVE server names and location and other names within the books.

Reading more on Tyrannis, watching some old movies and waiting. Does it really take the better part of an entire day to apply an upgrade they've been testing for months? I work for a commercial software development firm (and have my masters in computing) and 30 minutes of downtime on a commercial website = a lot of money lost. Patches are carefully tested and safeguards are there to debug instantly any errors that turn up on final deployment. And don't post the usual garbage of 'Its a huge multi-processor networked game'. The core coding isn't any more complex than any other significantly sized game, it just runs on a larger server framework. CCP gets away with a hell of a lot people in industry wouldn't normally stand for. I'm sure i'll get flamed for this kind of post, but my respect for their coders has gone down for sure.

'snip boring bits'
other than to vent my annoyance, but my respect for their coders has gone down for sure.
That's nice.

I love these books, and the others he has written :) Waiting on Part Three of the Void Trilogy.

I read the first Void book but I was a little underwhelmed - It'll probably take a second read. I think my favourite are the Pandora's Star / Judas Unchained pair (Commonwealth Saga) - merely for the classic adventure aspect.
As a writer, his imagination and ability to immerse the reader is immense.

If you want a nicer and more interesting reply : I'm just finding my copy of 'Metal Fatigue' (Download it if you can find it, its quite rare). Very fun and addictive C&C style game from a long, long time ago - with not too bad graphics. Based on japanese mecha style gaming if your into that.
