Yes, it's that magic day when everyone posts 500 similar but slightly differently worded questions about that new feature, PI.
As I never got my industry alt training very far before the expansion, I never really had a chance to see what all the commodities and things are used for.
I've looked at all the wonderful charts and things people have been posting regarding the processing of PI-related commodities. Apart from someone mentioning "POS fuel", what sorts of things are these materials (especially the new ones) used for? And why are they going to be valuable* (I suspect they won't be so much if everyone and their dog has passive collection of it anyway..)
Thanks in advance

Dust514. The upcoming (console-only) 3rd/1st person shooter/RTS/micropayment-MMO hybrid by CCP, which will allow you to hire mercenaries to attack/destroy/defend planetary structures from the EVE planets. Coming up some time next year, most likely, but possibly as soon as this year's Christmas.

Only some of the ones that don't involve moon minerals. Stuff like construction blocks, guidance systems, etc.

Why the @#%k is Dust going to be console only??? Man...when are people going to learn that control pads are *rubbish* for FPS games - that's why they have to build in aim assist...
It makes no sense marketing wise either - they are shutting out an existing fan base of PC users that already play EVE, is this what we get for loyally supporting CCP - "sorry lads, no EVE universe FPS for you, back to your ships"...

They're not rubbish, you're just not used to them. And only some games have any sort of 'aim assist'. Most things I play don't.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I knew that, but wondered if it was all POS-related or if it was used in anything else as well.
Is there really big enough market for this stuff if every pilot is picking up these skills?

I guess it will be, ella, just think how much of a tier I material you need for producing 1 tieri V product, let's take an absolutely casual example: 1 hazmat detection system -> 6 vaccines -> 20 viral agents-> 160 bacteria-> 24000 micro organism, and the whatever-it-does hazmat system is made from 3 different tier IV products, which in turn are manufactured from even more tier III etc... i don't know how much a planetary extractor can extract, but i don't think CCP wants to flood the market with POS and SOV cheap components. I guess that, given the skills, time and money required for running this kind of businness, there will be many capsuleers that dedicate themselves to keeping a planetary industry network up and running and a vast majority that will dedicate their time to other ISK-producing activities, just like has already happened with any other businness within the game, from mining to ratting to piracy etc.

Just think logical. Dust is console only FPS. If u want to attack planet structures U NEED TO BUY Eve online. And if you have an eve online account and want to attack others planetary structures, you NEED a console and Dust. This way those who have played a long time and have a lot of duties to maintain their system suddenly get vulnerable to a foe they cant attack nor defend to. Only if u buy the game :) And on the other hand there will be lots of non-eve-playing gangs o kids which will happily go for undefended SOV planets :) Buy or loose :) hey, its EVE :) And what they do this way is named marketing. Over and out. --- Honker:"Damn! Ok, I'll go and loot my wife now..." --- HighSec Gankers? Well, every world has its psychpaths. |

They're aiming at a different demographic with dust. The idea being that they already have a load of pc gamers in eve so why not try and tap into the rather large console market.
I know many people have both and other will argue one is better for x than the other is.
but any way you slice it, there's a whole chunk of people who play console games that'd jump at a new FPS and spunk money all over it, all they've got to do is market it as "It's like halo but..."
And no doubt in time, the same with most games, it'll go cross platform.
I mean, wasn't GTA:IV xbox only when it came out? I remember I had to wait a while to get it on PC anyhow.
so... chill winston ;)
edit: I'm also fairly sure there'll be mechanics in place to stop you from just hiring dust mercs to attack a planet right at the back of an alliances stretch of space. I mean, there needs to be some mechanic in place for the mercs to get to system x before they can start fighting there, we'll have to wait and see. --
Nothing is worthless, you may have gotten it for free but it still has an inherent value

There is a huge market, just look at the daily volume of npc seeded large towers.

Every Console shooter uses some form of aim assist, even if you are not aware of it - the control pads have nowhere near the sensitivity required to aim accuratly in a fast paced shooter so they do clever stuff that you don't notice like making the hit boxes bigger etc.
I am well used to playing FPS games on both casually on consoles and competatively on PC right back to the days of Quake and Doom - I can assure you it has nothing to do with 'getting used to it', FPS games stared on PC with a mouse and keyboard and that is still the superior interface.
Unfortunalty Consoles sell better in todays world, anyway sorry for hijacking thread - I was just really looking forward to playing an EVE fps...ah well...

Mouse pwns gamepads 100-0 in accuracy. Don't get me started, nearly two decades in FPS games...

It's not really about "OMG I need more accuracy." It's about using the exact same means and mechanic for shooting someone in the head as you do for doing spreadsheet calculations or looking at ******* on the internet. Point and click is just not nearly as fun or immersive as a game control, with a big TV and surround sound. Also WASD is lame. I am not a fan of FPS on the computer because of these reasons, even if it has a more accurate (aka easier) method of aiming.

Respectfully, I will have to disagree with you, control pad with hit boxes the size of Alaska and fudgy aim assist is niether challenging or immersive...and just to point out any decent PC is capable of running through an HD TV with *better* graphics than any console...

Continuing the thread hijack to point out that if there were no FPSes on consoles we would have more games which actually belong on consoles to play.

They are objectively worse for FPS control than a mouse and keyboard in terms of precision and speed. A good PC player would always beat an equally-skilled console player (assuming they could play the same game together).
The reason it's console only is because it's not designed for EVE gamers. It's designed to people who wouldn't play EVE, but like the setting and the idea of interacting with people in EVE. They specifically said it was intended for the complete opposite of your typical EVE player.

further hijacking of this thread, Halo is absolute garbage, if you need to make an example of a FPS then use something decent, like quake/half life/stalker/counter strike etc etc

Weeee! this is fun riding a train off the rails!
It's fun!
Mouse and keyboard vastly superior to controller.
I jumped spun 180 degrees looked down and threw a grenade and switched to my secondary weapon, landing and killing [akheadshot] racistantisocialdude with a deagle headshot then flipping another 180 back avoiding the flash to switch to the mac10 spray the hole where [haxzor]snd_reset_on_bind is going to pop out and then I die to him AWPing my dumb [non-L337] fresh_install ass.
you just can't do that without large volume of planetary goods being converted into higher tech player owned structures, and obviously it will be profitable, because it creates something from nothing.

Mouse + keyboard >>>>>>>>>>>>> controller for FPS, heck for most game genres.
Anyways they already have a massive FPS market in console games, Halo and COD for example. I don't see why there isn't a PC version as that would considerably open up more player base unless they made a very juicy deal with Microsoft to keep it with them only? IDK how it works.
