Bought a new computer from Alienware. It arrived in nonworking order where on startup screen showed red with failed error message. Contacted support and spend hours with them reinstalling most of the programs that were to have come with the computer. So this was call number 1 Finally have gotten it installed and got nic card errors. Tech support reinstalled driversą.call number 2 Screen freezes ą.mostly on eve, cause that where my gaming occurs. Have to hardboot computer each time. Finally call tech support when it wonĘt at all after shut down. Tech support replace drivers. Call number 3 Again freezingąNow more proactive, I call after first freezeą.Call number 4 . Tech support replaces various drivers and send me on my merry way. Again freezingącall againą.again drivers get replacedą.and they start wondering if Eve is compatible. Am ticked want to register a complaint, ask for customer support number and an escalation. They connect me with Tech (supposedly a senior tech) ą.Hey ya, Earlą.I just got done talking to you 5 minutes agoą..simple pass the buck carousel practicesą.Call number 5 30 minutes later (had to have something to eat, cause call5 took over 3 hrs) tried to get on internet and couldnĘt. However other computer in house was able toą.so not an outage. Tech support again replace drivers. Call number 6 was only 2hours 30 mins. Freezing occurred again within about one hour, but I was too worn out from my marathon sessions to call back for another multi hour fun session with tech support to watch them do the same thing ą.again. During call number 5 I had requested an escalation, but was told no manager was available. I was assured one would call by ten am. And you guessed itąąno call. So by 1030 I pick up the phoneą.now thourouly irritatedąyes even P.O.Ęd I call customer support and ask for a managerą..They connect me to a gent in India who agrees a replacement is in order. Oh waitąnot Dellą.you need to talk to Alienware. They connect me to a Manager ..drum rollą.Earląyes himąremember Earlą.fastest career boost everą.nice guyąbut not a Manager. Finally talk to a Manager and demand an exchangeą.Bamąrefused. Wait a minute Dell was ready to give me a computer but Alienware is not.!! Reason? ō ItĘs the better, more expensive systemö. Huh? OK give me the managers manager I aską.ooh noąimpossible, he only answers to the board of directors. Address please..or a phone number? OOOh we donĘt have thatą..(insert conclusion here) And you MUST try one last thing in the testingą You guessed it more drivers reinstalledą.and Oh btw, Eve is incompatible if you have all these errors since most of the computer time is spend there and most of the errors occur during game timeąThatĘs their best answer . Call number 7 So, fellow capsuleers, with that in mind, be warnedąEVE not compatible to Alienware! PS on the phone again, as the computer froze while posting this. wish me luck with call number 8

lol you got brushed off by someone who was probably repeatedly pod killed then emoragequit the game.
I'm certain it's some hardware fault so better to not mention eve anymore and say something like mw2 is going belly up. That game is probably closer to the level of intelligence of their tech support guys anyways.

for what you'd spend on an Alienware just buy a Dell Latitude or Precision w/ business class support, get probably a more capable laptop, and best of all they'll send an (English-speaking) tech to your house for issues like that |

Wall of text tl;dr : I bought an Alienware, it's faulty, and I spent a lot of time trying to get it replaced, so now I must nerdrage here. Oh, and random EVE tie-in based on an off-hand remark from one of the douches I talked to.

That sounds like a hardware issue. If you're in the UK, bought it from a UK supplier and you've had it for less than six months, throw the revised Sale of Goods Act (2004 ish?) in their faces and demand a replacement or a repair.

While most of your post is spot on, I can't agree with the bolded parts. Dell and English-speaking tech do not belong in the same sentence.

Wow that really sucks, Ailienware are basically Dell arent they?, tell them to screw the replacement and get a refund if you can,buy the parts online bring it to a local pc store and build a desktop that wont failload on first boot. Wouldnt like to see you phone bill at end of month either.

The first thing I would do is reinstall the operating system. If you are using windows 7 it should be easy. This will reinstall all drivers. Next check thru all the software that windows 7 installs. Make sure you have good internet connection. If windows keeps on asking for drivers or you dont have an internet connection you have a motherboard problem. If everything works and EVE does not run you need to get the latest driver for the graphics card. Good luck!

The OP probably pulled an attitude on the first call and the techs were giving him what he deserved (probably a nice little note on the call logs so all further techs would know as well).
As for buying an alienware, well I have one that I bought about a year and a half ago (M9750 laptop) and it works fine, has no problem running eve whatsoever and has never had an issue.
And then the whole price thing. I always see people bring that up, well if you actually go looking for other laptops that are actually suitable for gaming, and do some real price comparison, the funny thing is that the alienware lineup is actually not really overpriced at all, if you want overpriced go look at falcon northwest. When I bought mine I priced it vs a dell and a lenovo with comparable setups and the alienware was just a little bit more expensive than the boring looking dell, so yea I paid around $100 extra for a fancy case... --------------------------------------------

Seems to be the standard operating procedure in any large company.. have a external company handle claims and complaints in a way that can be summed up as blowing them off with driver reinstalls and having customers install hardware on their own (voiding the waranty in the process).
This all to fix computers that were clearly faulty comming off the assembly line.. but NOOOOO they dont replace individual parts when they can just string you along till you either give up or they get you to void their waranty.
These ******ed hotline people are not tech people and they dont know **** about computers. Their job is to handle as many calls as they can in a day.... And by handling I mean get you to hang up, try installing something that doesnt work and then forcing you to wait for another 2 hours.

Unlike the above jackasses, I actually feel for you bigtime . Why, you ask? I too made the mistake of purchasing an Alienware Area-51 m9750 back in summer 2008. Yes, it is less than 2 years old. I have shipped it back to them twice to fix an issue I believe with the graphics card, and the first time they shipped it back completely broken i.e. wouldnt work at all. The second time, it worked again but the original problem wasn't fixed!
Now, I've owned Alienwares since I believe 2002. They've never been known for their quality customer service, and I totally get what you went thru (I've had nearly the exact same experience with their non-customer service and tech support). They're worse now. And their product sucks. Sure, the computer is great WHEN IT WORKS. But this is the second Alienware I've had warranty issues with early on in its life . . . not good.
So since everyone wants to criticize, any suggestions on which companies actually make a quality product for gaming? And no, I can't build my own computer I don't know how.

'Surprised the possibility that nobody at Dell bothered updating their list of FX-compatible software hasn't been mentioned yet.
I mean, farbeit for Dell to actually care about someone else's product, especially a game, enough to update their compatibility lists inside less than a month of release.

I cant tell you exactly where to get your next computer.. but I would suggest a small retailer that can help you build a computer from scratch. Somewhere you can show up in person and where they cant dodge your calls. And where they take a bit of pride in their work. Somewhere where you can talk to an actual tech person and not some phone jockey.

Just kidding, never purchase an emachines computer, they have faulty power supplies.
MSI and ASUS are both top notch companies that offer both desktops and laptops that will run eve out of the box.
My wife plays eve on an MSI notebook she purchased from newegg for around 400 USD. nothing fancy but runs eve nicely. the only aftermarket product is a laptop cooler, but only a total nubtard would run a gaming laptop with no cooler. My brother got his hands on an ASUS notebook for around 600 USD that could run 2 eve clients.
Co-incidentally, my setup is an emachines with a heavy duty aftermarket power supply, 2 dual chan 667mhz 1gb memory modules, an 8600gt, and the cheapest dual core AMD I could find. Slackware 13 for the operating system. This is clearly a signature. |

Honestly building your own machine is ridiculously easy if I can do it anyone can, all it takes is a little bit of research to check you have the right parts like a PSU that's powerful enough and you have the right RAM and CPU for your motherboards sockets and it takes less than 30 mins to put it all together with little or no expertise needed.
If you can put together some flatpack furniture or cook a meal you can build a PC.

This is why I assemble my own machine. No lolalienware, loldell or loltechsupport. If you absolutely need to buy pre-assembled, buy something business-y. Support on those typically causes slightly less eyebleed, and you don't pay extra for the alien logo.
Have a look at consumer rights in your country. In some places, they're legally obliged to take it back and refund you, in others, they aren't. Since you mention it being new and effectively DOA, I do expect the law to be on your side. Find the book and throw it at them.
Some advice for the next time you receive a defective product: the only topics worth discussing with tech support (and I use the term lightly) are 'DOA replacement' and 'DOA refund'. The driver juggling game isn't going to get you anywhere.
I'm also going to concur on it likely being hardware. Perhaps a cooling issue or bad RAM.
