Those who have seen the Walking in Stations demonstration videos would have seen a small table-top game that players can enjoy against each other. Given EVE's seedy side there is no doubt we'll also see players gambling over this game.
What will be CCP's stance on this? Gambling in games can cause issues for game ratings (which I find hard to believe given so many old RPGs featured poker and pokies without any problem back 15 years ago and longer).

Don't see why it would be a bad thing, think there's a EVE Poker service somewhere as well.
I think gambling would be, well, non-unusual. |

Yep there is a poker service where you can bet using ingame currency however it's not physically part of the EVE client and it's not controlled by CCP. But when something like that becomes a part of the game it can cause outside issues. People see this as developers encouraging or at the very least allowing gambling. People will blame their weaknesses as stemming from virtual worlds rather than their own faults.
This is a worry. EVE is well known for it's stable community. Mature themes are thrive in the game's lore and fiction. We don't need outsiders dictating out game for us. ôRemember this. Trust your eyes, you will kill each other. Trust your veins, you can all go home in peace.ö

Aaaand.... scamming (and alot of other stuff that would be not-okay in other MMOs)) is okay with CCP, don't see why gambling should make us worry.

Actual legality issues though. Scamming within game mechanics won't turn heads in real life infact you could argue it is part of EVE's sinister setting.
However any media that features smoking, drinking, drug use and gambling find themselves drawing attention from legal and non-gaming types. ôRemember this. Trust your eyes, you will kill each other. Trust your veins, you can all go home in peace.ö

unless they use real money r plex's there would not be legal issues. the only thing would be a game rating change if anything

I'm not sure if EVE is mainstream enough to be assaulted by the media for that reason anyway :l

Gambling within eve, provided it is isolated to the eve universe and doesn't cross the ISK / real currency border is accepted and encouraged. Just look in the Events & Gatherings section of the forum for a selection of contests involving ISK and risk.
