Edited by: Betray on 05/06/2010 10:39:24 hac: unless ur short on cash, no need to go this route as cs out performs hacs in mission running... cs: nh is a very good choice for lvl 4's. not so familiar with others... bs: tier 1 is do-able, notably raven and apoc. however, if ur not short on isk, go for a navy ship marauder: since the loot nerf, i dont see much point in these
on the other hand... i perfer tengu above all for speed+dmg+tank... but i heard mach is fun too
Edit: duct tape ships are duct tape after all... go with caldari/amarr esp ur doing amarr missions. -Betray- |

Errr no. IF he's going to go for a T2 ship, minnie is the way to go. They have EM/Thermal resists up the vazoo, which is what you'll need/prefer for Sansha/Amarr rats. P.S. Raven is a Tier 2 BS, Scorp is Tier 1.
-------
I'd recommend from normal Battleships, Maeltsrom and Raven. It mostly depends on your skills as it always does - if you have higher skills in Caldari BS, go Raven. It's not particularly fast but it gets the job done. Never owned a marauder myself but I'm under the impression they were specifically made for crunching through lvl4's, so there you have it, arguably best for the job.

for pve you want dps and damage projection not fancy resists.
the nightmare is an awesome ship (especially for them em/therm missions), I like the paladin too.
the Machariel is another awesome pve ship, although it does chew through ammo. could use the vargur instead.
those are my top 2 picks, not quite sure what order to put them in as I haven't gotten to fly the macha much. but the nightmare just destroys blood/sansha rats. the macha would be nice as you get AE sometimes, and a few guristas missions, and it has some damage switching.

I could not afford anything fancy so I cross trained for Raven. I have been paying for game time with isk made from running L4 missions in the Raven. From this point of view, the Raven is a complete success. Now that I am paying for game time with isk, my next goal is Navy Raven.
From the above experience, I have two points to make: 1) Use battleship for L4. Yes, you can use smaller ships if you want, I would save that for later. 2) Raven and Maelstorm has switchable damage system. Amarr are notoriously bad against angel rats. Since you have the skills and isk, go for faction battleship or marauder. A Navy Raven can be had for about 500 mil, Golem is about 600 mil.

Err once again no, you will want rat specific resist or you die before you can apply that DPS in any meaningful way. Tanking rule of thumb, High Resist(+ optional small buffer) for PvE, High buffer+small resist for PvP. Of course fitting damage mods are needed for PvE as well, and for shield tanking ships this is never a problem.
Ratting in faction ships is also somewhat more risky because some people would like to gank you for a shiny kill/lolmail, even if you don't have faction fit on it. Some would consider having to train two ship skills a bother as well. So I still stand by my recommendation of Raven or Maelstrom - both can fit good tanks, Maelstrom is a bit stronger tanker depending on your skills, again. This stuff depends on ones skills as always. Amarrian ships work just fine on Sansha/Blood Raider rats, especially if you are more proficient in armor tanking, and armor of course provides a high base EM resist anyways.

slap on a few hardeners and voila resists! don't need a t2 hull for the extra resists.
and wasn't this about missioning not ratting (hell I think they'd be happy to kill you in whatever you were flying)? and if any marauder is an option I'm not worried about saying use a faction ship.
and raven/mael are okay, it is just there are better options.

For Sanshas and Bloods I'd probably use something like the Fleet Issue Typhoon.
5 cruise allows you to pick a pure damage type. Armor tank is preferable against lasers and 8 lows is really nice.
I've used a regular phoon against bloods for a long time in Radar sites and ratting. Never had any problems.
Currently use a Vargur now. It works fine in most Amarr missions but it's weakest resists are em and thermal. It's really much better against Angels.
