Anyone else seen this around? Been a couple segments on news programmes past few days looking at several games, specifically gta. Seems there was some game industry meeting on ratings or something or other. Cant help laughing though when they get some 8 year old on camera describing how he had sex with a prostitute then killed her and his mother claiming heÆs now going to do it for real . ----- Eris Discordia; I think the proper term is <3

was funny in GTA 1 how you got the mission to teach some hookers who's boss, and it has the words "Slap those *****es" up on the screen, like how it would say Wasted or Pyscho Bastard Bonus or Kill Frenzy.

I've seen it. Why is it that the popular press feel the need to blame videogames for everything that goes wrong with modern society. Personally I'm of the opinion that if you cannot tell the difference between videogames and reality you have bigger problems then playing a violent game. Furthermore, anyone who is supposedly "inspired" by a violent videogame to commit murder etc could just as easily be inspired to do so by a violent hollywood action movie. Just my 2ISK on the subject.

Yeah, the thing is it was probably his stupid mother who bought the game for him in the first place.
I mean come on people, if you really cared so much, maybe you should find out what you are buying BEFORE you buy?

I think the argument used is that participation is more likely to invoke a response than simple voyerism. But I would have thought that obvious
On a (slightly) more serious note, i agree that someone who has been inspired to copy their virtual actions in the real world was probably more inclined to have lost it later anyway. In most of the cases, which I have seen, used to promote the view of computer games = evil the games in question have been rated to an audience higher than the perpetrator of the act. The fault for this, in my opinion, lies solely with the parent in question for note keeping watch on their children's entertainment habits. Note I have no children yet, so this view may change when I have a little brat of a sprog of my own.
Anyhow, all I ever do in GTA anyway is nick a car and see how long I can evade the police before I get caught/killed. Couldn't really do that back home as there aren't enough police to make it fun!

lets be honest its the ****in parents fault, there is a clear cert on the game, why do parents just disregard the cert, dont see many going out buying there 8 year old kids debbie does dallas. why is it they can see the cert on a video or dvd but when it comes to a game there all retarded.
Speaking from experiance here as I absolutly gave out hell to my younger sister for buying her 10 year old son GTA:SA, not that it mattered i got no real responce. again stupid parents.

still i agree though, games have clear certs... it's the parents to blame if their kids get hold of em. I can't beleive some of these cases that end up in the category "caused by obsession with video games"...
just because we're ebil pirates on here... doesn't mean we go out in groups looking for unaware members of the public to gank with potato guns and water pistols when they're leaving marks and spencers.
EDIT: Well actually.... no, no... Nevermind
