I've now been playing on and off now for just over a year and still playing through the NPC corp. Seeing as I'm not on all the time i've not really made any friends through eve bar from the odd ones who helped me in the beginning.
Now its come to the point that I'd like to join in with others and play the game with someone other than myself. I'm only a weeee miner at the moment with my hulk though I am in the process of learning to fly BC's as I like the idea of attacking something other than mining all day long.
What channels are worth idling in etc and how can I go about joining a corp as I dont want to just join the first one I see...

You played for a year and spent the whole time mining? Can I have your like 1 billion isk?
What the hell compelled you to do that LOL?
I've been playing like 3 weeks and Im like 2 weeks away from t2 fit bc and training for battleships, cant push myself to mission for 2 hours and cant mine for more than 20 minutes,
Why are you paying to do a repetetive boring task?

I suggest the recruitment channel for starters. There is usually just a flurry of advertisements but you will eventually see something interesting.
One place you may not of thought about yet, but I tend to enjoy, is the Help Channel. Of course you are better off not idling in there but being active. You will find some nice people willing to teach also being active in there. Ask them about their corporation as they will be happy to help out a player who will be "new" to corporations.

Oh my gosh, Zymurgist actually plays eve?
I'm sorry, but from past conversations I would not have guessed.
What's next, Navigator makes a post that isn't either a lock or a caustic retort?

You call it repetitive and boring. I call it relaxing. You come across here as a hyperactive child. Sorry for the offtopic reply to an offtopic post.

Confirming that Chibbra also doesn't enjoy mining and he has not enjoyed it for years. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

Looking at his posts i kinda doubt he plays eve.
Recruitment forums is a decent place to find a corp. Recruitment channel is about as useful as jita local for finding a corp.

I have found Jita local to the best place for finding an honest and upstanding corp.

to be honest I've only got about 500mil if that and I don't mine all the time, I rarely get a chance to play and when I do it's only for a couple of hours, I enjoy doing missions instead of mining all night long and am still afraid to enter anything below 0.6 as of previous mistakes :).
At the moment I'm training a BC and might try kerb my skills to killing as I've only so far accumulated 9m skill points.
Going to give the help channel a idle in and check our recruitment chat though was in there last night and it really was just spam.

Put an advert on the Eve-O recruitment forums saying what you are intersted in/can do/would like to be part of and also browse the forums for potential corps.
Don't bother with in-game recruitment channel tbh.
I just wrote a recruitment guide but it is more for corps really.

There is also Eve University for the player looking to get used to a structured social gang oriented playstyle before they try to join an active corp.

Im suprised CCP Zymurgist didnt mention this - but if you open your corp interface tab on your UI, and click on 'recruitment' > 'adverts' you can view Corp adverts and filter by your own preferences (time zone, type of corp etc etc). Its quite a powerful tool and in many ways better than just reading loads of spam on the recruitment channel
