Please bear with me on this one guys... the idea is only half baked so the specifics on how it could be done or applied don't exist yet. I just want to see how viable the idea is. ________
This is an old idea that some people and I talked some time ago while staring at a high-sec "deathstar" of a POS.
The idea basically centers around the problem that Dreds cannot enter high-sec and bash extremely well fortified POSs. Instead, one must rally quite a few friends in decked out battleships with logistic support, and spend hours (sometimes even days) tediously bashing POSs while remaining alive.
So here's the idea: Imagine a T2 battlecruiser that can only fit 1 weapon; a dreadnought sized gun/launcher. It's specific task would be as a [high-sec] POS basher (and maybe as anti-capital support).
Again, I cannot give details as this never really left "concept stage." So I'll hand it to the rest of you and see what you think. _______________________

This has been brought up before and is still just as fail now as it was then. The reason dreadnoughts do so much damage is because the "Siege Module I", it give a 625% damage bonus to guns with a pretty big starting damage modifier.
Sticking a single dread gun on a smaller hull accomplishes nothing.

Why not just make mining lasers do damage to structures? Gives them a very identifiable pvp purpose and it makes sense. The industrials built it, they can break it.

This is the "PT Boat" concept. Small boat that can deliver a torpedo that could sink a ship. The PT Boats were designed to be small, fast, cheap, and deliver a heavy punch, but they were easily destroyed by cruisers and destroyers.
Currently there are two ships that come close: the destroyer for packing a lot of high slots but lacking mids and lows for tank and more closely the stealth bomber, for being a "glass cannon".
It is possible to fit a battleship sized launcher on a battle cruiser, but little else.
The idea could have merit, but it already done in the destroyer and SB models to an extent. I don't think there would be other uses for them other than giving fleet commanders grief over what to primary.

You can easily compensate for the lack of siege mode with bonuses. X% damage increase for every level.
It would basically be a siege weapon with a ship build around it. Quite usefull for POS'es in highsec. But also for low/null sec maybe. For all those who can't fly carrier/dreadnought yet. So its targets would be POS/capitals/(heavyly tackled) Battleships. But pointless for anything smaller.
sounds good to me.
