I assumed just CCU to 4. Then I read where someone said AdvPlan made a real difference.
One strategy is to just wait for Adv plan to get to say 3. The other is to just jump in, assuming you will have to discard most of the structures when it is depleted and you have to move. And you will have better scanning skills then.

Edited by: Shootmenot dammit on 12/06/2010 11:23:25 I jumped in as soon as I could. Remote sensing III took no time and allows me to deal with my planets from my home station.
I began to train Planetology, but I stopped at II. There are guys in my system that seem to know what they're doing, so I copied their extractor placements. It's worked so well that 3 extractors in 0.0 are almost covering two basic processing plants. Two extractors in 23h cycles gather more than one single factory can process, and the launchpads were filling too fast.
Also, I only trained Command Center upgrades to III, for Improved CCs. I use four planets for a single P4 final product, and except in the single Gas planet I use, the other ones have more than the needed CPU and Powergrid, which I have to fill with more extractors and factories.
Again, I only trained for interaction with four planets, which is what I needed to give PI a try and set up a casual scheme.
So far so good, looks like the P4 is coming in, it takes barely any time at all to nurse the extractors and import/export stuff, and I only devoted around 48 hours to training the PI skills.

I have Command Center Upgrades 4, Interplanetary Consolidation 4, Remote Sensing 3, Planetology 4 and Adv Planetology 3.
I don't plan to train more for PI. -------- All I want is a better mankind.

Everything to 3 and then pushing CCU to 5. Once that finishes in a few days I might do a bit more planetology before maxing out consolidation.

I have this. i might train for CCU 5, as it might help clean up the setups at bit more; at advanced you seem to be short a couple grid to get really clean single-planet t3 setups and so forth going, where a couple extractors or processors would really help.
with the limited planet types i have available though (w-space), i don't really think it's worth training interplanetary consolidation V. _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |

Command Center Upgrades 4, Interplanetary Consolidation 3, Remote Sensing 4, Planetology 4, and Adv Planetology 4 over here. The funny thing is I don't really have any plans to participate in PI on TQ at all

CC Upgrades V in another 7 days (on 4 toons), Interplanetary Consolidation IV (on 6 toons), Remote Sensing IV (all toons), Planetology IV (all toons), then probably Advanced Planetology IV (all toons).
As for placements, I lol when looking at some of the placements. Obviously some people need to improve their skills, or practice their surveying technique a bit more (i.e. using the resource slider bar), as I see a lot of people placing their extractors on the very edge, or even outside, of the prime "hot spots".
But hey, just means there are more resources available for my toons ! If it moves, shoot it. If it doesn't move, mine it. |
