Edited by: Barakkus on 23/06/2010 21:23:41 Hate to break it to you guys, there is not a single gaming company that gives spot on ETAs when downtimes end 100% of the time.
If you can't handle the downtimes every once in a while then stop playing MMOs.

Do you know the meaning to CUSTOMER SATISFACTION???!!!! Also I canÆt believe you relied on face book for your updates, that gave us hardly information apart from your bloody estimated deadlines which you have broken many of times since IV been paying for your services, also how Fc.uking lazy is it to rely on a forum for information from devs so lazy.
IÆm sure your multi million dollar company could of thrown up a tempury website which provided us with proper updates. For future downtimes scrap the estimated times and make out your offline for 2 days+ and finish before and everyone will love you for it.
I usually the person in the threds thatÆs like good job ccp but hold on a sec you taking the P1ss out of us.
For anyone who things IÆm stupid or what ever. what if you bought a $1000 Rolex watch and it broke the first day you had it, and the bloke behind the counter told you to file a petition, or check face book for information how to return it or log on there forum and wait to speak to a dev. They should I hope have good customer skill/relations to sort your problem out.
And now this topic how many Devs reply to you we all no not many.
My rant is over CCP sort yourself out train your staff in customer Service/support and for god sake kill the estimated deadlines
You should probably spend your subscription money on therapy instead of gaming.

If you are not satisfied why the **** are you still here? go play world of warcraft or something like that. I was told Customer Service there is awesome.
Quote the wrong person or do you just fail at reading comprehension? b/c I have no problem with the downtime.

Originally by: Aslan Inbarr I have to say I'm amazed that there are people who play and understand eve that actually took the initial downtime estimate seriously. You have to have been idiot savants or extremely naive to think that this was going to go off without a hitch. Quit whining, go outside, go to the pub, whatever- it's your own idiotic fault that you wasted a day waiting for the server to come back up.
This tbh ^^
Last time I had to do something similar to what CCP just did, it took 2 days instead of an estimated 6-8 hours b/c of **** happening...people should be happy they got it done in less than a day.

This is pretty tame for downtime *****ing, you should have seen the forum explosions for EverQuest II when I used to moderate SOE's forums lol.

Originally by: wizechatmgr As someone that has previously deployed a 400 unit cluster, you people have no clue the amount of stuff required to set something like this up.
You have to pull each rack out, install power, network, do your cross links, hook up no less than 4 cables per server and cut your hands on sharp metal edges. This isn't "A" server, it is a cluster of servers. It isn't like you just move one unit and your done. Now keep in mind they are also overhauling their existing network as well. Frankly, doing it under 72 hours seems like a dream.
Kudos to CCP on this epic attempt to fix known issues :)
And any halfway intelligent person would have had the hardware already installed and warmed up, ready to load the current version of eve and the database. Only halfwits try to do a major server move on this scale the same time they pull the old server.
And only someone who has no interest in keeping their job would throw away millions of dollars just to move some servers by buying all new hardware for a 1 day job.
And FYI it's not a single server...

try to understand about moving this stuff.
1-unplug all 2-move all 3-plug all 4-try to figure out which cord is not plug at the right place 5-Edit this post to tell people server is back online
It take time, YES They always tell server will be back at UTC X-hour, YES It's often reported, YES
But who know the work it represent to move those kind of server? Not much of us.
For anything else --> MasterCard XD
fly safe guys hummmm well when we will be able to go back IG :P
Try to understand COMPETENT server migration 1. set up new hardware and test connections BEFORE shutting old server down. 2.On migration day test new hardware to ascertain no connections are bad 3.perform migration. 4.Boot new cluster up and run diagnostics 5. open for connections and lastly 6.Profit??? They weren't just moving the old server hardware buddy, they were migrating eve to a new farm with updated servers
They are using the same servers, just consolidated everything into the same room, why would you waste millions of dollars buying all new servers to move everything to a different room and upgrade the networking equipment?

I wonder if they hold competitions like that sometimes lol...whoever wins the race gets to push the power button for the daily downtime or something to that effect...

Originally by: baktul Well... as a dev... I love CCP. Blizzard is ridiculously silent during any outage or extended downtime. And you never hear why or how. I don't really know of any service providing company that gives so much information about the backend. I do wish I could get in my ship but you guys rock.
Believe it or not SOE has come a long way in the past couple years themselves...they're pretty good about keeping the subscribers up to date for EverQuest II as well...actually they pushed out a whole expansion this last winter with absolutely no hitches...
CCP is doing a fine job, while the hilarity ensues everytime something major is done over there, they still do a great job dealing with it and their subscribers.

Are you sure? Sentinels fate had all the servers down for almost a whole day.
Yeah, I'm talking about Sentinel's Fate...it was flawless in it's rollout for the most part. There really wasn't a single issue, and it was completed pretty much in the timeframe they estimated. I've seen some really bad rollouts from them and dealt with the aftermath, I used to be one of their forum mods (StrollingWolf) :P
