Type 6 checking in...
Read the news, sae the extended down time and set a 8 day skill like 3 days ago, then had a PC/Vista issue, registry error - crashed OS, spent all day reloading the system (much in common with CCP server folks), found errors, reloaded OS and apps, in the process realized that the Patch for EVE was enormous and his DVD for it was "Trinity" and it would be another quarter of a day just to get online and at the same times sees 46K people online now... sits and watches installer and wonders what the "gift" is and how SP bonus is going to work towards his Mining for PLEX time that was lost, then mind wanders off to totally unrelated items.

Come on after Tyrannis dt, what did you expect ? Do you realize what it takes to move a cluster of servers ? Heck, I usually lose 2 days having my office PC's upgraded. So I set that handy Hull Upgrades V I had 4 days left to train, and enjoyed the worry free real life I have (unlike the EVE life what's been full of crap lately :) ).

How about people who check the news daily but CCP posts the news less than 24 hours in advance. I was on shortly after downtime the previous day and there was no mention of it then.
Personally I think extended downtime should be posted 48 hours in advance. People shouldn't be punished for having a life and not checking the news several times a day in the off chance there is going to be extended down time the next day.
Fail. The extended downtime was announced over a week ago. -- My typical ship fit:

Originally by: Obsidian Hawk Type 1, reads the news, saw the extended down time and set a 10day plus skill just in case.
Type 2, doesn't read the news, didn't know about the dt, and forgot to set long skills
Type 3, always has a long skill set cause they know better.
Type 4, reads the news, saw the dt coming, but assumed it would be back up on time and only set skills accordingly.
So my question is, why cant more people be like type 1's?
Because I have 72 mil SP and I don't care if I lose a day of training anymore. ---

The extended downtime was visible in the calendar for some time now. Such news just does not show in the middle of one's screen and always has the potential not to be read, but it was there. --

I lost around 10 hours of training, really not anything i'm going to lose any sleep over. I did know about the downtime, but did'nt really think about starting some longer skill training when i log out the night before the downtime.
EvE is just a game, my skill queue is not part of my daily calendar. If i know i got empty space in my training queue, i'll login in the morning and make sure i get skills running, just in case something comes up and i'll be home late. I'll not take it to the point where i get calendar notifications about server downtime just so i remember to set special skills just in case the downtime is extended 24 hours.

Do you realize how stupid you sound? "I'm not ignorant, you're ignorant!" There is no mention of it on the news page which currently goes all the way back to June 12th. You're basically stating people need to create calender entries for events over two weeks in advance. CCP gave almost no lead time following up to the actual down time. The notice they gave was posted less than 24 hours in advance. They should have given at least a 48 hour lead time assuming that people have lives and don't log in every single day. In the current situation I actually logged in the morning prior to the extended maintenance and there was no mention of it.

You guys may treat blogs as news I don't; that is what the front page is for. If something important is going to be stated it needs to be stated on the front page with the rest of the news. As you can clearly see now by going to the front page it was up for less than 24 hours prior to the downtime.

Who is ignorant? I saw this announced at least a week in advance, possibly two. The devblog which detailed exactly what was happening was definitely up a week prior. They even talked about it during the finals of AT8. If you check daily, you must not read anything, just stare at letters on the screen.

Hey Drenlo brutor, you should read that. It clearly states in the first few lines that the server would be down on June 23rd. So......... yeah. You really need to keep up on the news.

The first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem. You have now admitted the problem, the next step is to remember to place the longest possible skills up for training whenever a server upgrade or patch is announced.
If you do that, you will recover fine.
I'm type 1, I was prepared. Set week long skills. Saw the issues.. and knew the forums would be full of people screaming 'the world is coming to an end, I lost a few hours of training time on my character BOO HOO BOO HOO'.
Thank the Gods my life doesn't revolve around a game so strongly that I would get upset over something as small as skills not training in a game for a few hours. |

There are actually 100 types of EVE players.

hmm I set a 5 day skill because every skill with longer training time is reserved for "after remap" but I never had a DT longer than 2-4 days in eve (this one was 2+a day I couldn't get online) so that works, too

What suprises me most isn't exactly about slackers lost their game time over the incidence. Yeah, it's not even my business.
It's rather about how lightly CCP depicts moving their equipments to a new location. Whenever big, dusty electronic equipments moves, some really weird, crappy things almost always happen. Any net admin w/ reasonable intelligence knows this, and becomes pretty unnerve when there is no option but to move around their toys.
CCP should have made it a big deal like other expensions, so people could have prepared better. |

hi,
type 11 here:
I have been lulled into a false sense of security by CCP getting extremely efficient at patching over the years. Every previous patch Ive set a long skill off then had to change it to something else when the server comes back up bang on time. Due to the fact that for the last 2/3 years CCP has been able to more-or-less keep to their announced schedule I set a 24 hour queue on my account. I really don't care about the lost SP or playtime - it is internet spaceships after all.
also for some reason after reading OP i cant get R-type out of my head. Damn i loved that game + LDSkill+hireLDS |
