Originally by: Obsidian Hawk Type 1, reads the news, saw the extended down time and set a 10day plus skill just in case.
Type 2, doesn't read the news, didn't know about the dt, and forgot to set long skills
Type 3, always has a long skill set cause they know better.
Type 4, reads the news, saw the dt coming, but assumed it would be back up on time and only set skills accordingly.
So my question is, why cant more people be like type 1's?
You forgot to divide the types 2 and 4 into two different subtypes. a) complaining about lost skill time, and b) not complaining about lost skill time.
My 2 cent on the topic:
I usually assume CCP to need at least the double time which is estimated and set a skill for this time. My char (and my chars on other accounts) are pretty old, so most skills I train naturally take long enough if they aren't nearing the end.
So on all my accounts one char (this one) finished it's skill during the unexpected long downtime. It lost about 4-5 hours of training time. What does that mean? Well, that means I don't care about 5 hours of training time on a more than 6 years old char. If I lost one or 2 days, I wouldn't care either. That's still nothing compared to the age of this char. And it barely lost training time until now, not yet, and not before introduction of the skill queue.
So I can say to all who care about their lost training time:
a) Do not overestimate a few hours, especially if you may play Eve for a long time. A few hours, a few single days - mean nothing. b) If point a) is not the kind of thing you can look at it, be better prepared next time.

Type 7 reporting in:
Saw the news, put in a five day skill on Monday and completly forgot that I already had it skilled for three and a half day.
But I give a crap - I am still too drunk from finishing my real life skill queue at university

Intelligent players are usually type 1, but over time they drift towards type 3.

So true. Must be about the third time I've done this. --------------------------------------

Im mostly type 3. Although there are obviously times when you just cant have more than a day and a half in the queue so then Im a type one.

I never new about the downtime, and didn't change any skills.
When servers came back up I had 12 hours left on my skills which was ~ 2 days or so from finishing.
What person doesn't have a skill that is at least 2 days long? And tbh, losing 20 or so hours of skill training isn't the end of the world. And it CERTAINLY isn't worth this thread.

And my question is: How can you always have a long skill set? All skills finish at some point (I hope).
Easy. Whenever you have skills that take <24 Hrs to train, always slap along skill at or around the 23 hr mark in the training queue, you can always comeback and change it later, unless you can't connect to the server (in which case: mission accomplished). If you have skills that take >24Hrs, well you don't really have a problem (at least most of the time) do you? In this way, if server goes down, if the power or internet goes down, or you're just plain busy with RL stuff, you don't loose training time.
Type 3 checking in, btw.

Type 3 reporting in. I always leave something long at the end of the skill training, like, something which will take 2-3 days to complete so I can rest assured I won't have to worry. |

Edited by: Xyla Kador on 25/06/2010 17:19:40 then there's type 9 - don't read anything but hear about it from others and have a vague idea on everything
type 9.5 - are the ones that take this vague information and assume they are experts on everything and then whine on the forums when everything doesn't go exactly how it was described to them
id say im a mix of 1, 3 and 5 cause i just don't read everything all the time

Usualy type 3, however I was a type 2 on this occasion :(
I have been just doing long skill training with my main, so I though I would give a new alt a try, and retry the tutorial's to see what there like. Thus a few hours to waste turned into two days because I was having fun, then when I logged into switch it back to my main... doh.
I have lost skilling time like this before, which is why I am usualy a type 3, but if CCP are gona reimburse my lost SP's I will not complain nor gripe, as I was not expecting them to do this. I am also aware that it tends to hit new players (ie low SP toons) harder than older toons, where for example I have hundreds of skillz at level 4 requireing in some cases months to train to five.
