is it possible to hire third parties solely to protect you through lowsec, and them being capable of doing it? On A GCC? On a WT, if the WT fires on you and you're ganged or fleeted with the protectors?

Sure, just post it in Crime & Punishment. I'm sure there will be plenty of people that want to "protect" you in lowsec.

Im asking on the basis of game mechanics. Can third parties fire back without becoming criminal, if a fleet member is fired on, if that member is not of the same corp.
And if I wanted to hire mercs, I know a better place to buy them.

Unless they war-decced the troublemakers they would get security hits. In high-sec they would get Concordokkend. In low-sec as long as they know what they are doing being capable of protecting you isn't that much of a problem, they'll know about gate guns and timers and have scouts out. As for their sec status that's their problem not yours and they should consider it when taking the contract. I really can't imagine such an escort to be cheap though (doing it properly requires planning and logistics and enough of a fleet to actually do the job) so whatever you're doing is really going to have to be worth while.
Another option is to run diplomacy on the planned rout with the people living there. The best option of course is to do it with your own corp if they have the experience necessary. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

They can fire on the attacker without repercussions if the attacker took a GCC, i.e. he didnt have kill rights or an active wardec on the victim.
That being said, if your protection force isnt willing and able to handle possible threats under sentry fire, chances are they will be no use anyway.
The only reason to use escorts instead of purely relying on proper scouting would be you want to make the trip regardless of blockades, and that means you need enough escorts to punch through anything that may stand in your way.

Edited by: Taedrin on 01/07/2010 03:11:19 Using a more literal interpretation of your request, they could always remote rep you to keep you alive. I'm presuming this is for a freighter run through low sec?
There are various mercenary forces who would be more than happy to protect your freighter running through low sec for a fee.
EDIT: Or your anything, really. They don't care so long as you pay them. ----------

Its a bad idea. A hic will ruin your pretty little stabs and you can always get more points than you have stabs. Your best option is a blockade runner , cyno or good scout. Problem with that is almost all low sec areas have a few factions on ts or vent who will cut you off. If its small stab the crap out of a frig and hope. If not you have your options.

A good outfit could do alot to keeping you alive. Shooting people would be possible but scouting correctly and planning your route ahead ect would make shooting a last resort.
Use a decent outfit, one that is verified in the mercs channel. People offering you this service for free are more than likely out to kill you so avoid random free offers like the plague.

Eve seems as though it should have a "Wild West" feel to it, with rampant lawlessness, hold-ups etc. Unfortunately the lack of social interaction means that NOBODY gets a reputation for being respectable, friendly or trustworthy. Thus the good guy "possies" (i.e. citizen militias) are notably missing from this Wild West. Eve desperately needs Incarna for this reason alone.

That all happened years ago - 2003/2004. There have been lots of posts along the same lines as yours.
The tl;dr is that the only way to reliably kill "pirates" is to take a sec hit. Take enough and what do you look like to the PVE players?

I thought some more about my analogy and I think that without Incarna, Eve is like the Wild West without a saloon.
