In roleplaying terms, why do some gallente stations have giant glass shield on one side?

So which part of the term "in-character only" are you having trouble with? Maybe I can help you. - Verin "Stitcher" Hakatain. |

I want to know where they get that much glass from.
Or how material stresses don't cause it to shatter like crystal. -----

Because we think its hilarious to watch pilots fly into it thinking nothing is there.

It looks as hideous as all other Gallente ships, who all seem to resemble novelty-vegetables, broken male appendages of a certain nature or an obese child attempting star jumps.

It's not glass. It's a translucent photovoltaic solar energy collector. Some Gallente engineers a while back thought it would be useful and aesthetically pleasing to design stations in this manner. The cells do provide a boost to the stations' energy reserves, but there are a lot more efficient means of energy collection and storage.
This is why we all don't go around flying in Zephyrs.
All in all, I prefer the cool, clean lines of a Caldari station to the amorphous blobs the Gallente come up with.

Unlike holy Amarrian stations, which are designed to elevate the spirit of the viewer and lift his heart and mind toward God, Gallente stations are designed to evoke primal carnal urges. The rounded, amorphous shapes representative of the female body trigger sinful thoughts of lust and desire. The transparent architectural elements signify voyeurism, that irresistible Gallentean urge to poke his nose into places where it doesn't belong.

Sigh. No.
Gallente stations are designed to emulate a planetary environment. Check out any three-domed agricultural Gallente station (such as those ran by Combined Harvest) or any industrial station (such as factories and assembly plants). ------------ Luminaire General Seriphyn Inhonores [TAGMA] Federal Defence Union |

For someone so pious, it's amusingly hypocritical that you would think about such subjects deeply enough to draw such a conclusion.
Either way, you're wrong, and Seriphyn has illustrated why. -----
