Very nice initiative :) I thought salvaging other people wrecks was stealing, but not. I just tested it and its completely legal :D

Edited by: Dr Lii on 11/07/2010 13:09:17 Those that have given out wrecks to new players, how did you get them to the wrecks in an easy fashion, would like to help out but don't want to spend to much time on it.
Edit: I assume there is no "don't split bounties with fleet" option that I have missed, or is there?

Fleet them up and have them warp in and start cleaning up or trade a book mark.. works either way and no you dont have to share your mission rewards.

No, but all the fleet seemingly has to be on the same grid to split bounties properly. I never bothered to work out the precise mechanics, but back when I ran a salvage alt at the same time even that, which was generally near the mission boat most of the time, didn't always get a full split. I'm sure someone knows exactly how it works.

i think the person your flying with has to help kill said npc.. or noo shared bounties at all. Go ahead and clap. Mediocrity deserves applause. Why don't we go find Pandemic Legion and clap around them! |

Bounties will be split evenly if the fleet is on the same grid, regardless if the other guy isn't shooting. Those offering free wrecks should keep the above in mind if they don't want the other player(s) to leech off their bounties.
Current ingame mechnics are inadequate to run this smoothly with as little maintenance/hassle as possible.
Fleeting has some weaknesses but it solves location problems dynamically, can anchor bookmark drops solves location problems but it creates a hassle for the mission runner, station trade bookmark drops isn't too ideal because of mismatch timings (since it requires players to be on the same station at the same time).
I think the best compromise is fleeting, but with a few basic protocols added. Fleeting can also be made slightly easier by advertising your fleet in the Fleet Finder, thus removing the hassles of invite/reinvite. Simple protocols can include - do not linger or stay in the same pocket as fleet boss when salvaging/looting. Get a faq up, standardize, improve based of feedback and above all keep it short and simple.
Tbh, I'm a little surprised this thread lasted this long. But its good work. |

Well, if you do the missions fast enough, you don't even need to be fleeted with them. Just BM each area, and make a contract with all the BMs. The salvager can be 1 mission behind, at all times. It's not ideal but not a complete pain in the arse.

Just wanted to say thanks to Manipulator General for the help in letting me salvage and shoot the **** the other night. I look forward to doing it again with you sometime soon.
Also thanks to Lady Aja for getting this started. This really helped me out and I thought I would pass on my appreciation.

That's because they're not looking for voluntarily abandoned wrecks. They're looking to annoy people by tackling wrecks that people want. If one is donating one's wrecks, there's no fun involved for them.

Unfortunately, it does not work well with the original intent of being able to salvage someone's wreck: tears. While that crowd publicly states that it's all about game mechanics and a "profession", in their private channels and blogs they relish in doing it to deny someone else whatever it is that the denying party perceives. That is, if the mission runner complains about it, they claim they got tears. If the mission runner does not say anything, they claim tears.
Question: Does the mission runner collect tears when they pop wrecks after seeing probes on scan before the ninja is in mission? How about when you pop wrecks in their face as they salvage them, when they chase after another wreck, I pop it again until they leave? I just want to be certain the "salty secretion solution" I have been collecting in the hold of my Iteron 5 is pure tears, its supposed give 3x the AU per warp when you put it into the fuel bay and much more environmentally friendly .
When a mission runner pops wrecks, the ninjas still consider that tears and will blog about that.
It's kind of like that creepy cousin everybody has at least one of. The one who thinks that if a girl looks at him, she wants him, or if she catches him staring at her and walks away, she wants him, or if he hits on her and she tells him to take a hike, she wants him.
Agreed.... Maybe the salvagers could put up a bounty on Creepy Cousin?

I know the title says Level 4's, and I can't access the game right now to ask this in the channel, but can we offer wrecks from Level 3's as well? I'm not good enough for 4's yet and I usually abandon my Level 3 wrecks. Might as well have it go to someone that's interested.
If not, perhaps they should be considered as well. Level 1 and 2 wrecks might be a waste of time, but 3's can still net hundreds of thousands, maybe a few million, in isk. Perfect for noobs and might be a good way to even up supply with demand if it's unbalanced right now. ____________________

I would've taken you up on the offer, dunno why the other guys won't of course, I'd have to be in the area. Too many times have I been invited to a MR fleet after they ASK if anyone wants to salvage, only to be kicked out ("we don't like ninjas!")

Ever since Tyrannis I don't even bother to loot and salvage anymore, which is fine for me. Salvaging is such a boring job and I cba to swap ships and go back just to do it. I'll see how this goes.

This is one of the best ways of helping new players isk wise I've seen in my time in eve (short of just giving them cash) I don't run missions anymore, but is there a way we can donate to the service to help it grow? I know you can't guarantee that the donee will use it to help the service, but the growing success of this seems to speak towards the trustworthiness of those running the operation.

I'd suggest posting up secure containers in major mission areas, as well as newbie areas, advertising the channel. Targeted advertising is the key. :)

I don't think donations would be a good idea. You're dealing with the general (unwashed) public, the items/isk disbursements will open up plenty of opportunities for shenanigans. It's not foolproof.
You could run it ala Eve Uni, but that's re-inventing the wheel. The free-to-come/go concept in Free Wrecks is fine as it is, imo. Nothing beats this method of leg up for new players, atm. If you can get ISD to post it in the news and you might see a flood of folks joining in - those that don't read the forum anyways.
