I have tried every walk through I can find. I am new to Linux so things that should be simple to most likely aren't for me. I have Wine installed as well as EVE via Wine. However when I launch EVE (even in the terminal) the splash screen appears for a minute, then goes away to show a Wine Desktop screen that I can't close. Feel bad for asking a question so similar to others, but can't find a fix for the life of me. Can anyone help me out?

In any case, delete any cache files you may have (C:\Users\<name>\Local Settings) and re-install your Graphics Drivers.
That works for me when I get the Splash Screen and nothing else bug.
And did you check out my easy to follow guide here? http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1339845&page=1#3

This machine has a Mobility Radeon X600 card. And I have followed your guide once before, however I still can not get past the splash screen. I have been trying to get some updated drivers for my GPU, however it is proving quite a hassle.

Hi
it looks, like you have no running open-gl drivers.
you could verify by entering: glxinfo | grep rendering
Without OpenGL (3D) you wont get eve / wine to start.

Just remembered I had this as well, apparently I am not so hot at installing OpenGL
In the above context, I am not sure how I should understand your statement, if you do not want to install OpenGL-capable graphics-drivers you should not post that problem.

That is the response to the command. I do want OpenGL running, I thought it was working without a problem though so it surprised me. I assume OpenGL will function properly when I get some video card drivers installed right? I am still having a problem finding drivers for this card.

That is correct.
I'm not that familiar with ubuntu, but there should be a tool "envyng" that handles driver installation.
Otherwise, post your graphics model, there is always someone here who can point you to the necessary driver.
You could also check the official ubuntu forums, there you will most likely get help.
