especially for caod.
Was reading some MMO news and apparently Blizzard decided that after one of their upcoming expansions, your (real life) first and last name will appear when you post on the forums, with the option to display your in-game character name as well.
they believe this will solve the flaming troll-fest that their forums have become, as people will be more careful when they post.
now if someone told me this I of course would not believe him, no company is crazy enough to do something like this, but after checking on blizzards forums, the dev posts confirm it.
now of course I though...hmm...what if the very same happened here on our beloved forums?
can you even imagine what caod would be like?
do you think CCP would ever be crazy enough to consider something like this.
in the end you have to admit...it might turn out to be the most effective solution against trolls
I wonder though if they will go through with it...I hope they do, just to see how it turns out |

Considering that it would be a pretty huge breach of privacy, I don't think CCP would ever go that far. Class action lawsuits could be filed. |

This discussion already exists in oope.
And that corp that makes that game is very stupid for doing this. It is going to cause more problems than solve. |

Again, already being discussed in OOPE, and, to reiterate, Real Life names are a bad thing to share on the internets. All it takes is a few 4Chan idiots who feel like harassing you (i.e. posting your information on 4chan, and with a full name it isn't that hard to find) and you will find yourself having your life pretty much ruined by a bunch of idiots who have nothing better to do than **** with you.
Remember, this image is pretty much what you can expect from 4chan. And remember that the internet is filled with /b/tards. No exceptions. |

It is still their forum code that makes the information public. As you would not have any control over that whatsoever, it is a breach of privacy. |

CCP has divisions in the US, Europe, and other countries. I'm sure Iceland has privacy laws too. |

Why sue? CCP would be bankrupt within a week. |

you do have control over it and that is the point. as long as you don't post, your information is not posted.
your information becomes available through your actions.
though I guess by now blizzard must have a quite large legal department, which probably assured them they cant be sued...I mean they probably checked
yes, I agree, bad idea, but imagine what would happen to caod!!! |

I'd vote for this, it would **** off the ten or twelve or whatever people who are playing the Charade of Stellar Magnitude.
Oh, also, something about this being in the wrong forum section.
