How many of you play with sound on?
Be honest.

The alarms give me just enough time to save my passive tanked ships from imminent NPC doom.

Windowed mode here but with window decoration removed so I can alt-tab around. And I do have the sound on. Not the music but the sound effects.

Having the low shield/low armor warnings is really great for missioning in a dominix. If you look at the screen every 5 or 15 minutes, a screaming "structure damage you idiot, activate repper" is really helpful.
If you were not as dumb as i am, you would have probably turned the repper on at the start of the mission, but well..

Well I also have the sound on because I like the wooosh of warp and the bzzzt of lasers so I keep it on when I'm flying in null/low as well. It's a nice comfort but has little utility or interest except in the case of alt-tabbed carebearing.
You also need to enable it to use eve-voice which I've used on occasion.

No wonder I've never played with it on. ^^

Edited by: Trader20 on 08/07/2010 00:35:38 I always play with the sound on. Eve soundtracks and sound effects are amazing if your into that kind of music. I might be the minority on this but I have to say bravo CCP sound guy, keep up the great work.
Hey alienhand where are you dude? Your tracks are awsome also.

I actually like some of the music tracks and I use that low armor warning sound just in case I'm sleepy or something. Still I often mix the eve sounds and my own music.

Ironically, I played with sound on (music off) for a long time when I was a full time bear, but turned and kept it off shortly before I went into 0.0.
It was mostly the NPC lasers. They're hella annoying.
I really miss the old warp sound effect (soft wind). It's a damn shame they changed it.

The funny thing about this sentence is that by the time you've finished reading it, it's too late for you to realise it doesn't say anything. |

The only time I turn it on is if I am Low or Null sec. So most of the time it is on. It's good to know when someone is shooting at you there if you haven't already noticed them there.

I don't like teaming up with people that have sound disabled in their online games. It's probably not that big of an issue in EVE, though.
But think fantasy MMO for a moment: You're running around with a buddy and some stealther pops up and attacks you (making lots of noise doing so) while your "friend" running in front of you is oblivious to the situation because he couldn't be bothered to enable sound. Happens all the time and makes me want to scream at people... -

I play with sound on. I find it helps the immersion also it's useful on my alt accounts when I'm not paying attention to them to hear things like if they're getting shot or when auto-pilot turns off or the if low armor warning goes off on my afk domi pilot.
