Edited by: Squizz Caphinator on 08/07/2010 05:08:20 Last Tuesday my craptastic NVidia something really old video card went up in a poof of smoke, literally. So I went shopping and ended up buying a new video card that wouldn't tax my existing power supply and would fit in my case.
I settled on this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143187
And then I struggled for a week trying to play Eve with onboard video. I do not recommend trying to do that, pvp is impossible.
=== Today ===
My new video card arrived today and so I left work an hour early to truly enjoy it. After a full evening of Eve I have determined that I am a *censored* stupid ****** for waiting so damn long to get a decent video card.

Did you know that ice is supposed to look wet and shiny?
I have been absolutely awed by what I've been missing out on! I've gone from all low settings to all high settings, and my mouth is still hanging with some of the awesome things I saw tonight!
Quote:
Is that a shadow? There's shadows in Eve? Really?!
So, if you haven't gotten a high end card yet. Do it! You'll be grateful you did.

Wow, ships are metallic, shiny, and reflective? Damn that Crusader looks sexy! ah crap I'm tackled...
And so I end the night losing my Crow because I was too busy being awed by the graphics of the game. I <3 my new video card.

The planets are even prettier. I do have to agree with the ships being shiny and reflective. I didn't know they had round edges. lol! If you're planning on spending the money for a card, may as well get a good one. ♥

I popped a fair boner when I saw the shadows cast by my corp's POS control tower on the ship maintenance array. The game's visuals really are immersive if you are paying attention.

I have an ASUS G2S and it's got a 256MN 8600GTM in it, seems to work very well with EVE in all settings, tbh though I just run on std most of the time - looks the same either way on all settings, which look really good, it might look even better though no way for me to tell be interesting if people would post up some different views to compare cards and such.

You should try forcing AA then (with HDR enabled) too...I use nHancer for that.
Biggest I.Q. improvement in my mind...no more fudgly jaggies. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fact of EVE forums: They will always come an anounomys alt-toon and question someones character... |

The current visuals in EVE are definitely a big improvement over the old. I still have screenshots from back around when I first started EVE, and they almost look like they were from a whole different game.
