Miho: Journey to the Mountain by Paul Winter Consort
It's 'world music'. I liked it so much that I bought the album. You may listen to the whole thing at bandcamp.com.

Edited by: Atnal on 23/01/2011 18:59:31 Anything by Venetian Snares. I mine it's the some of the creepiest stuff I've ever had.
Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PBeKzVhWHY. It's called Szamßr Madßr. It basically mashes two dichotomies of the music world, Glitchcore/breakcore and classical into something just about as depressing as an emo would expect.

Here is one i made myself, inspired by EVE Online.
It was an instant moment thing after an eve adrenaline rush and was made semi-live, 15 minutes pre sequencing from scratch then this live mix.
The voices were made using a text to speech synth. (yes they sound like half life )
Cheers!

@Tara Moss: really enjoyed those tracks from Cape Town and happy to be introduced to them.
Here's an Icelandic group that I think qualifies as obscure:
Electro-cult: Gus Gus - doing an outstanding live performance of Believe, and maybe some drugs

That is some interesting stuff there Charming. I have some new favorites to browse and maybe add to my collection.
My new addition to this thread is a collaboration I had known about since 2005, since I was able to hang out and see one of the jam sessions at the tour date I was at, but just found out tonight that there is an actual album that was released in 2008 by what is officially known as King Hobo.
The following was taken from their MySpace page.
Originally by: King Hobo King Hobo's start began during The 2005 Sounds of the Underground festival. The tour was about as decidedly ôun-funkyö as they come. Equally put off by the lack of anything remotely ôin a pocketö, Per Wiberg of Opeth and Jean-Paul Gaster of Clutch set up shop outside the bus trailers and sent an open invitation to any like-minded musicians. Shortly thereafter, they commenced to fill the void. All told, this happened only a few times, but when it did, great spontaneous jams were pulled from the aether. They were a sorely needed respite from days crammed full with blast beats and monster howls. The good times, however, would inevitably come to a halt when a participant would insist upon ôshreddingö or ôwailingö. This was not the spirit of said jams. The credo was ôget funky or get outö.
So lay back and listen to some old school rock the way it was meant to be played; laden with the blues.

Some stuff i like. Boards of Canada - Julie and Candy Chilled and awesome.
OBI - Soulkeeper Not for the weak!
Emiliana Torrini - Jungle Drum Think CCP linked to a iceland promo video that used this track. Still a great and not very well known track.
Desmond Cheese - Dope Remix Edit <-- Notice the sampled cellphone vibrator that begins to fade in at around 0:25, how cool is that?
Paul Kalkbrenner - Aaron Paul Kalkbrenner is well know amongst the listerners of techno music but his unique style has drawn quite a few new ears from those who normally wouldn't listen to techno.
Alex Karakasis - Bulletproof There is just so much groove in this beat!
Adam Beyer - Remainings III Drumcode Swedens own techno guru Adam Beyer shows how's it done!

Your flunking Vogue
For some dark music that can not really be labeled but the following is from their wiki
Originally by: The Budos Band The Budos Band are an instrumental band recording on the Daptone Records label. The band has ten members (up to thirteen members at times) who play instrumental music that is self-described as "Afro-Soul," a term and sound which - in a 2007 interview - baritone saxophone player Jared Tankel elucidates as, being drawn from Ethiopian music the band had been listening to that had a soul undercurrent to it, which the band then "sprinkled a little bit of sweet 60's stuff on top" of.[1]
Jazz, deep funk, Afro-beat, and soul influences can be heard in the Budos Band recordings, all of which were recorded at Daptone Records at the label's own studio, Daptone's House of Soul, in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Contents
Quoted from the bands spokesman and the baritone player, The Budos Band is like Satan Island Soul.
The following is from their third album which actually craked the Billboard top 200 and the R&B top 30
