In a few weeks I'll be going to italy. My plan is to change the skill queue now and then, but I've heard CCP bans accounts after they've been used on different ip's.
Is this true? Should I mail them ahead of time?
thnx :)

No, where on earth did you hear/read such a thing?..
CCP WILL NOT ban your account if you log on from another computer/IP..
Have a good time in Italy!

I would honestly open a petition, you would have to search for it under acct management or somethign and you should inform them before your trip you will be accessing it from a different country.

It would be best to contact a game master via petition to get the answers you need. They will be able to answer any of your questions regarding this.

If CCP banned accounts that were used by different IPs there would be alot of cyno / pos gunner accounts that would be pretty ****ed right now --

Wouldn't want you to go out on a limb and field an answer yourself.....
The answer is no. CCP cannot ban you for logging in via a different IP.
ISPs use dynamic systems across the board. You rarely have an identical IP to one you had say a day, a week or a month ago (all depends on how they run their system).
If it makes you feel better I've accessed my account from home, from work and from work via backup links which would all (to the outside observer) appear to be sourcing from 3 separate parts of my country... when in fact they are less than a mile apart.

AFAIK CCP may only temporary ban your account for investigatioin if it is accessed from a known ISK seller IP.
But yeah. petition just to be sure.

This forum needs more copy-paste replies and less information and the GMs need more petitions to handle and the same questions again and again.
That's how it should be, right?

Yeah, come on... forum moderators are expected to double as game masters, customer support and be fully versed in every aspect of the game. :)

A corpmate of mine got temporarily banned for "suspected account sharing" or something similar, without a change in his geographical location. After a quick petition his account was reactivated within 24 hours. So there might be some truth to this.
I access my account from another country roughly once a month. I even moved from EU to the US for a month annd then back. I never had any such issues.
YMMV.

I am from Norway, but have logged in on my account from Iceland during fanfest 2006/2007 and in Italy 2010. And there where no problems at all.

Edited by: John Ellsworth on 09/07/2010 23:36:00 what they will do is challenge your log in , they will ask for a character name on the account , if you don't know it they will not allow a login from a unfamiliar ip , if you do know the character name they assume it's you and allow the login...

i think this is the most useless answer to a very simple question by a ccp mod ever
why bother gm's with such a crap when you can just give a simple answer
which is you can log in from any ip...

You know what really ppiissses me off.? That CCP posted something, but did not answer the question.
CCP Adida should of answered the question on the spot. Instead of instructing the pilot to go through countless days waiting for a petition answer.
CCP really needs to be more active in the forums by answering questiobns and as well as helping people.
Instead of just logging in just to move a post or delete a post.

The ops question is a valid one. In the current climate, where accounts are being hacked, a different country IP accessing your account may look suspicious. All he is doing is making sure but tbh, a petition would be the way to go and not listen to speculation and conjecture.

Yeh that was annoying, when I came back after a 2 year hiatus I had to wait 2 days for a petition to be answered because I couldnĘt remember my character name.
I have been banned from other games for logging in from different IPs, (with different ISPs) (account sharing). I have also been banned from some games for having a house mate that plays the same game (multi boxing).
CCP doesnĘt have the worlds best reputation for making fair calls. Asking the question is defiantly not stupid.
From responses so far it should be fine, it would be a good idea to run an in game petition anyway more to let them know what your doing than to ask permission.

I sometimes play from work using my 3G phone. This gives me a different IP all the time. The only thing I've noticed is that I have to enter the name of one of my characters when logging into the forums or general EVE online web-site.
I've been doing this for about 4 months and so far no problems.
