I have been wondering this for some time, why are ships (frigs-cruisers) only able to go at base speeds of a max of 300 mph? I mean It space....not like we are going to hit another object. You have a station 250K km away from the planet your at. Apollo missions went that far in 3 days and it takes eve pilots without support of mwd or abs more then a week prob 2.
I mean I know we have warp drive and all but I think Id like some souped up sublights. I know we cant all be zipping about or we would never run into each other, but who would like really fast sublights and who wouldn't?
Don't get me wrong I don't want to go planet to planet in an hour I mean thats what the warp function is for but come on surely traveling within a small portion of an AU at high speeds would be cool.

Aren't you confusing mph with m/s (meters per second)?

Even if he was, Eve ships are slow as hell. 400 meters/sec is about 900 miles per hour.
To put that in perspective speed of sound in dry air is about 331 meters/sec and the SR-71 spyplane could do 981. DAMN THOSE TERRANS AND THEIR SUPERIOR TECHNOLOGY!

The Apollo Program Starred Tom Hanks and as such, they went there faster than they would have. Also EVE has yet to license their intellectual property and movie rights, but if Tom Hanks starred in an EVE movie, I bet my interceptor would go from planet to planet in a "jiffy." |

It works out to be about quarter a mile a second which is 900mph. Still, not that fast for space.
The shuttle goes up to 17,500 mph but of course the earth rotation affects that, all speed is relative.
Anyway, its depends on the engine thrust and mass. It may be most of the engine space is taken up by the warp drive. You can invent any reason you want for it.

with skills and no prop mod a dramiel goes 591 m/s. More speed is the last thing we need tbh.

Would be easy enough to keep things as they are and just change the measurements

Considering a Rifter is what? 1,067 tons and the size of a ferry (eh i think, havnt got game open), I don't think that's all that bad.

Yeah, but eve ships feel more like flying a jet fighter and airbus then a Frig and BS. All Im saying is that ships in eve seem way to slow compared to conventional thinking. The plot is set thousands of years into the future and although eve lost a lot of tech when the gate went off still if they can design ships to go 6 AUs per sec which is extremly fast. You think the sublight engines would be equal in power.

instead of space, imagine eve takes place under water and we are piloting futuristic submarines.

Not really when you consider the acceleration involved.
Conventional engines have no top speed except light speed limitations and reaction mass BUT they accelerate very slowly.
EVE ships (probably using virtual thrust arrays) accelerate much quicker, but have a limited max speed which is better for them since if they want to travel longer distances they just use the warp drive. -The sword is only as sharp as the one who wields it. Drenzul (My normal internet tag) |
