hey guys
After a relativly long disscussion in the linux channel in game i think we have found a possible patch for the Evemail cache error that some users are suffering.
its my understanding that this issue is only suffered by users using another method other than wine.
our fix is as follows
launch the eveonline client from wine then cd to cd .wine/drive_c/users/your_username/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/CCP/EVE/c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility/cache
Then copy the EveMail directory to where ever cedega or equivelant stores this folder
Please Note: YOU MUST BE LOGGED OUT OF EVE BEFORE COPYING THIS DIRECTORY
once you have compleated this process start you client and hopefully you evemail window should not spit this error out at you if this issue continues please let us know and we will look at this fix again
This fix has been confirmed to work on the mac client confirmed by Krispy Dingo
Original confirmation link http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1345460&page=3
Quote: I can confirm that using this method will fix the in game mail on the Mac client. I copied the EVEMail directory from my Crossover Games install into the Preferences folder for the Mac client, launched the Mac client, and my mail has returned.
Thanks Arlina, you rock!

Yay, thanks!! I used a similar method which solved the problem: install EVE on a Windows computer, log in and check a few mails, then copy the cache to my Mac (using WinSCP, although there are easier ways for most).

Is this something we could restore from Time Machine? My mail worked for quite a while after the latest Tyranis update. Just died on Sunday.

I tried that already and it didn't work.

Theoretically possible solution: 1) Log in and check your mail for ALL characters on the account on a working client 2) Do the copy.
It might not work, depending on EVE's written, though. If the cache files are overwritten when switching chars, it won't work. If it keeps a separate cache per char, it should work.

it all goes into the same EVEmail cache folder, but there are different files for each character. the string of numbers defines which character it is for. _____________________________ http://twitter.com/krispy_dingo http://krispydingo.com |

Hang on, we have to download the entire widows client and open it with wine?

I already have the EVEMail folder in the right place, and it was still bombing out. I did delete the files in that folder, then went to the esc menu and hit the 'clear cache' button for the mail, and it is working now. We'll see how long it lasts but at least I have a relatively simple way to get the window back for now.

Absolutely love that there's a workaround for this. Love that the Linux folks and *nix folks have gone into it to figure out. Love that someone tried it on a Mac and that it works.
I refuse to implement the workaround.
Call me stubborn, but a commercial piece of software should not require a user workaround. If this game was in beta (perpetual beta, seems like), different story. Commercial piece of software with ridiculous amounts of money being poured into Facebook ads and such? Forget it.
Recognizing the difficulties involved as cited by CCP/Cider-related folks ... regardless, support your product. I don't care how much manpower is already reserved for XYZ, or tied up working on ABC, make it happen. Support your product, support your customers, try to build and/or maintain a good name.
Love the game. Not a hater.

Mail was working for me, but I had to clear settings, and that trashed mail.
But I got it working again!
In
~/Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility
Are some folders, one called "cache" and some called "cache_backup#". In the backup ones there is a folder called "EveMail" I picked the backup with the highest number and copied the EveMail folder to "Cache" and mail started working!

Sorry to hear that. Maybe that backup is corrupt as well. Did you try all of them? If none work, then it may be "Wait for CCP". At least they posted that they know its an issue.
Then again Ive had "Known issue" bugs not get fixed for over a year.

Nice try, glad it worked for you, but unfortunately there is no "cache_backup#" folder in that folder for me, just "cache" and "settings".

I recently got my new iMac and did a clean install of EVE on it (no copy of preference folders etc of my old mac). I got the same error, clear cache blabla, but there is nothing to clean out (since i dont have any old cache files).
Seems to me the mac client and the eve mail storage is kind of not communicating properly or the files on the ccp servers that hold the mail are actually the corrupt ones and not the players mail client.
Its weird though that eve-gate works fine with mail, but these errors came after eve-gate introduction. Maybe the ccp server is confused about sending out the same email multiple times (to gate and to eve itself).
Would be nice if a dev could fix this problem asap ;)

Is there any reason why I could not transfer the relevant files from another Mac client that is working?

Doesn't work. Just updated client on a machine that still had dominion. First start shows the mail cache error.
