This Thread isn't necessarily just about the repetitiveness of having lots of extractors and restarting them every 30 minutes. its about the command center in general. i think that the command center should work with the extractors like pos tower. you should be able to start the extractors from the command center with the added bonus of being able to set multiple extractors at once. now i understand that this is a major planetary interaction mechanic, but when i first started i was like "OH COOL PLANETS" but now its become a chore of slow and teeth grinding repetitiveness. for those of you who are major industrialists like myself.. have 4-5 planets with improveds or better on them. have 14 extractors going at once.. now i run my extractors on the best yield possible, the 30 minute counter cycler. it is nearly impossible to restart all 70 (5 planets times 14 extractors) extractors in that thirty minutes. Because im a hardcore industrialist.. known for all kinds of industrial things. People know me and i dont think i should have to stroll on down to each extractor and press the go button. do it all from the command center mann. =)

First post!
There needs to be a 'select all' button on the command centers. Would make things a whole lot easier. |

Maybe use agrouping mode like the wepon moduals. All the same extractors be grouped together and you clicke the main one (or the command center ... excelent idea) and then they can be started all in just a few clicks. I too have 75 extractors on 4 planets. It takes so long too click them all i can barley do the 30 min cycle due to by the time i am done I have to start all over again to get any decent productions.

Using the weapon grouping system sounds like the best solution to now, and being able to manage the extractors from the command center is really a must, what if due to "random" your command center is on the opposite side of the planet in relation to your industry, you need to turn it all around...

My short term "fix" would be to have the extractor remember its last cycle and auto-highlight that cycle when you go to reset it. You then just click Install rather than double clicking the cycle. Cuts clicks by 1/4. It's a start, anyway.

exactly.. locked in the eternal trip of eve planetary interaction.. i usually watch movies when i do planetary interaction..(restarting extractors every 8 minutes) but now since i upped my 5th planet.. i cant even watch movies. =((

Edited by: Lohrant on 19/07/2010 12:45:03 I now have 60 extractors divided on 5 planets, and I must say this gets horribly tedious. As I know you use a lot of python at CCP, I hope the following "pseudo-python" makes sense:
scienceindustry.click() planettab.click() for planet in planettab: ....planet.doubleclick() ....for extractor in planet.extractors: ........cyclechoices = extractor.doubleclick() ........cyclechoice["5 hour cycle"].doubleclick() ....submitbutton.click()
This is basically what I go through manually a couple of times a day. This amounts to at least 257 clicks each run-through.
I would love to change this process to something like:
scienceindustry.click() planettab.click() for planet in planettab: ....planet.doubleclick() ....planet.commandcenter.click() ....masssurvey = planet.commandcenter.masssurvey.click() ....masssurvey["5 hour cycle"].doubleclick() ....submitbutton.click()
Notice the nested for loops have been eliminated for the player! Which would amount to just 37 clicks per run-through!
For those not-code-savvy amoung us, this reads as:
open science & technology window click planets tab double-click planet click command center click mass survey doubleclick 5 hour extraction click submit repeat for each planet
Another optimization could be to have a double-click on the command center trigger the mass survey. And a final optimization could be to have a mass survey button in the planets tab, which surveyed on all the planets at once.
NB! As the forum removes consecutive spaces, indentation spaces have been replaced with dots.

Another possible option would be, since CTRL-CLICK is already assigned for links, is SHIFT-CLICK to select all items of type. Would work very well for extractors. Then simply only allow survey (with total number of extractors as the amounts) and option to begin.
Would offer multiple extractor starts, as well as an easy overview on how much one gains per cycle for all extractors.
Another small tweak I would VERY much love to see is color coded extractor states. Change the color of the central icon of the extractor so that if its green, its extracting. Yellow would be 'pending', meaning its not extracting but a cycle has been selected and is not yet submitted, and Red for not extracting. This would greatly ease multicycle extraction templates. -Felyza

What I see as a simple option to remove some of the tedium of extractor work:
- shift, control or drag window to select multiple extractors at once (all of one type)
- Right click, select 30, 5h, 23h or 96h cycle. To heck with scanning.
This would vastly reduce the number of clicks and avoid the annoying few seconds scan time associated with each extractor.
I mean if colonies can be managed from several regions away, some realistic level of automation seems reasonable.

Agreed. I understand that PI has to take time and effort or else the products will be worthess, but this is also a video game. A video game simply cannot be allowed to have a mechanic consisting of "click....survey.....extract" for minutes on end. Such a game would be quite embarrassing to be caught playing.

Having a Window similar to the process tab for POSs that list all the structures would be awesome to list all the extractors for PI
